Why do some average-looking startups raise funding while better ideas struggle?

I’ve been observing the startup space for a while, and something doesn’t quite make sense to me. I’ve seen startups with fairly average ideas raise funding, while others with genuinely strong concepts struggle to get any attention from investors. At first, I thought it was purely about traction or connections, but now I feel like there’s more to it. Maybe it’s the way the idea is presented, or how clearly the opportunity is communicated.

It makes me wonder if fundraising is less about the idea itself and more about how well you package and position it. For founders who’ve been through this, what do you think actually makes the difference? Is it storytelling, clarity, timing, or something else entirely?
