I don’t want to break with my bf so now I’m stuck with his dog
me & my boyfriend have been living together for a year now in my apartment, I had 2 cats , he had 1 and we adopted two more , so now it’s 5 . He also had his own dog which used to stay at his parents house , the thing is …the parents didn’t want the dog in their place anymore so my bf begged me literally to take her in ( as a trial ), in the beginning I said no but finally I told him I was willing to try , my biggest fears were the barking and that she was going to harm the cats ,none of this happened , I mean she barks but not constantly.
She moved in with us like 2 months ago and she’s been driving me crazy bc she stinks soooo bad ,she has several skin conditions and I live in an apartment so the smell travels around the place , it was irritating me so much that I was being kind of mean to my bf bc I was getting so overstimulated with the smell . So last week I told him I couldn’t live her and that I was not compatible with her , he asked me why ? And I said the smell primarily but honestly I cannot get used to living with a dog . He said he was hurt but he wasn’t mad at me and that I was giving him a logistic nightmare cause thats her daughter and now what is he supposed to do ?, I told him I was not telling him to take care of it right away that I could wait months if he wanted to but long term I didn’t think I would be able to cope with it cause dog energy + smell it’s just too much for me . We left it there and then like two days later I felt him being weird towards me and I know this is wrong but I went through his phone , well his chat gpt specifically … we have plans of getting married next year and I found messages of him venting and saying that he didn’t think he could marry someone that doesn’t like dogs and that he was thinking about breaking up with me and moving by himself. So after I saw this I went into crisis mode and I ended up backing down and telling him the dog can stay but he needs to clean her at least twice a week , he agreed and was really thankful and happy.BUT she still stinks , she lays on my carpet follow me around like I’m supposed to pet her ughhhh , I was thinking alright since I have to live with this smell the whole day now you are going to have to smell it too , so my plan is to marinate all of his work shirts on the dog bed so if I’m smelling it , he’s smelling it too . Tbh this is driving me crazy
