Having trouble finding a smut darkfic that actually has dark elements
For example, I love monsterfucking + non-con between the main ship, so I usually look for fanfics with non-con in the tag and exclude all other ships involving the main couple and all variants and random tags like "not between the main couple", but what I end up finding is... disappointing.
I recently started reading a fanfic that had the tags "human sacrifice" and "monster character B" as well as a lot of non-con and body horror tags, and character B was described in the summary as this "horrible, cruel monster who terrorizes character A's village." Okay, cool! I started reading! Five chapters later, character A is finally tied up and taken to the forest. It's great, I love everything about it! Character A faints from the cold when she sees something approaching her, wonderful!... and then in chapter 6, character A wakes up and it turns out that, sure, character B is a half monster, but "she would never hurt anyone, she actually kinda protects the village and sends all the victims to another town where they are healthy and safe!! It's a misunderstanding, guys!!!! :))". Sex? Very consensual. All the non-con tags? They were referring to a scene from the past that wasn't even shown, only briefly mentioned.
Another time I was reading a BDSM AU, and okay, I don't expect a BDSM AU to be always super dark and full of non con, just cnc is fine, but... my god, so many fanfics are just this meme:
sub: you can do anything you want to me, I'll obey your every order
dom: any order?
sub: yes, any order!
dom: okay, so I want you to start sleeping normally, eating 3 meals a day, and...
And I don't know, maybe it was cute the first time, but now every time I see it, I feel like the dominant character is being portrayed as the parent (in a very non-sexual way) of the submissive character. Sometimes there's even some really intense parental lectures and nagging, and then the sex is very vanilla, but at the same time, with constant checking of colors, safeword , everything.
Today I was particularly annoyed, because after hours of searching, I found two stories that seemed to have everything I wanted. In one, the foreplay was great, the dominant character promised tons of kink (tagged!), but... it ended up being just "normal" sex. No kinks. In the other, I didn't even get to the sex scene because the author had a poly ship, where character A and character B acted more like father and mother to character C, than partners. Judging by the author's notes, I'm 99% sure the author wasn't aware of how that sounds.
Yesterday, I found a fanfiction in which character C kidnaps character D, and then for 5 chapters nothing really happens. But the characters quickly start behaving as if it were a completely normal situation for them. At one point, I skipped a few chapters and, I'm not even kidding, I found a part where character C explains to character D's old bully how important consent is. I skipped a few more chapters and found an author's note in which... I don't know, it's probably my frustration, but I felt like the author had completely forgotten how their story began, because they were talking about how much character C was a green flag and that the old bully character is much worse because he was mean for character D when they were both 7 years old. (The most frustrating part: it wasn't even new fanfiction. It was from 2008)
Do I write about all the things I want to see? Yes, but I'll be completely fucking honest with you that writing fanfiction isn't nearly as satisfying for me as finding a good story to read.
