I cannot believe this but having spent all day trying to work out where some vital missing files were and initially blaming myself for maybe having done something weird, I have worked out what has happened.

I have the web and desktop app: so there is a folder on the desktop that syncs those files to the web. It's been great. But something bad is going at Sync because when I was trying to find these files, I keep coming across really old folders - ones that I know I deleted years ago. I am not talking about the Vault or Trash but my main Files folder.

So old files, folders and data reappearing but vital files I need not there. I decided to go int the Events Log in settings and go through line by line to try and work out what happened. I know that you cannot see folder versions but I thought I'd get some clue.

To my horror, while the first part of the log (2021 - 2024) and the last ten days look normal - ie: files added, links shared etc - there is a huge gap from April 29 2024 until March 29 2024.

Last activity logged on April 28 2024 - then nothing logged at all, despite hundreds of files added in that time - until March 29 2026. So two years of missing files explains why I can't find the files I need, although not so much why long-ago removed ones are showing up in the main files folder.

I can't imagine how (a) this could have happened and (b) Sync could not know about it. I don't know much about apps like this - I have websites - but wouldn't they have backups or be able to roll back to a previous version to recover data? Or is it possibly a cyber-sec issue that nobody has been notified of?

I opened a ticket with them about ten hours ago and am hoping that they can help. They cannot possibly blame the customer for wiping the events log, right? I am aware that I can cancel my subscription and while there is eight months remaining, I was told when I had an issue a while ago that they never refund.

But the real problem here is that I now have grave concerns for my data and if there has been a security breach, are they not obliged to tell customers immediately? If it is not that but a tech problem , why are they unaware of it?
