Ernie (18) is starting to decline :(

Hello all, Today i found out that my beloved boy Ernie has started to experience health issues due to his age. I dont live with him because i started living on my own last year so im struggling with the fact that every time i see him could be the last. Hes the best thing that ever happened to me. Hes such a beautiful loving boy and i cant remember a day without him.

My mother rang me today to let me know he had to have some emergency vet visits today and he has been diagnosed with minor renal failure (very early stages) and hyperthyroidism due to his age. This means he will have to be on medication and special food for the rest of his life. Which is especially hard because of the extra costs it brings (the medication alone is £60 per prescription)

Im just struggling to cope with all of this and im extra stressed because i dont know how much longer ill have with my boy. If any of you have/had senior kitties with these issues and have any advice/reassurance please comment down below because i could do with the support.

Also if anyone knows of any good cat food for the renal issues that isnt insanely expensive that would be very much appreciated because we dont have much money at the moment but we still want to give him the best we can!
