H1b I129 approved, want to travel , how to know whether COS or consular?
Canadian on L visa here.
I got my electronic receipt earlier this week for first time approval. This will be my first time on h1b as of october. It says "DETROIT TUNNEL POE notified" on the consulate / Port of entry section, and then has my i94 which I was last admitted on and tells me my h1b is good until 2029.
My company lawyer suggested to wait for the physical approval i797 just to make sure its a COS approval and not a consular approval ( she said they filed it as COS, but just want to make sure uscis did not mess it up) before getting the green light to travel.
Wanted to ask the community why it matters if they approved it as either or, as im fairly ignorant on the matter. I wanted to go home in the next couple days to Canada for something important, will that effect my h1b application if i dont have the physical approval? Thank you!
