It's a bit of a complicated story but I was hit by a driver who turned out to be uninsured while driving a leased Mercedes SUV. The police officer cited the other driver as at fault so I tried to file a claim with the insurance company she had a card from.

It turns out that policy lapsed in January.

Fortunately, the damage to my car doesn't appear to be all that serious as my preferred body shop estimated $2,206. However, there will be a rental car for a while.

I doubt it would help much to go after the driver but my deductible is pretty high so it will hurt to be out that money. Might I also go after the owner of the car (which seems to be an auto dealer in Ohio?

Any advice.
