So, today I acquired yet another soundbar—one I hadn't owned until now: the 990F. America is a wonderful country; I found an absolutely brand-new, unboxed Q990F soundbar listed on Facebook for a ridiculously low price—just $350. The seller was asking $400, but I told the guy—who runs a small shop in New Jersey—that he was being greedy, and I walked away with it for $350. Turns out *I* was the greedy one. Every other listing I saw was for at least $1,000. I really got lucky.
I brought it home and hooked it up.
What can I say? I actually prefer the design of the previous models. The plastic grille on top is a bit annoying; it’s something I’ll have to get used to.
As for the sound—oddly enough, I’d read reviews claiming the subwoofer on these units was a bit weak, but I wouldn't say that at all. It hits hard and feels more distinct; on the B, C, and D models, the bass is a bit boomier, though still good. Voices, however—it seems to me they sound clearer on the older models, though maybe I’m just nitpicking. I didn't notice any major new improvements. I tested it using a Samsung S95C TV and an Apple TV 4K. My entire home audio-visual setup consists of Samsung gear: four TVs and four soundbars. I’ve even hooked a second subwoofer—a Klipsch 12SW—up to one of the soundbars using a RUSOUND converter. I’m not sure *why* I did that, but apparently, it’s the trendy thing to do. I swapped them around and tweaked the settings every which way, and they all delivered practically identical results. The only difference between the D and F models is the latter's support for 2.1-channel audio; otherwise, there’s no difference whatsoever. I tested them using movies like *Formula-1*, *Dune* (Parts 1 & 2), and *Avatar* (Parts 1 & 2). I haven't had time to test anything else yet, aside from some Dolby Atmos music videos on Apple Music. All the speakers and subwoofers are fully interchangeable: the subwoofer from the F model connected seamlessly to the C model, and vice versa. The same goes for the rear surround speakers. So, if you don't plan on connecting game consoles or a PC to the soundbar, just grab whichever model you can find at the lowest price. There is absolutely no difference between them. The only thing to note is that the subwoofer on the "F" model is quite small, so you'll need to buy protective grilles for it if you have cats or dogs at home. I know some guy out there prints and sells them; if anyone sees his listing, please let me know. Good luck to everyone, and don't stress too much over your choice!
