Our US based client is currently in the process of hiring remotely and onsite in South Africa and various other countries. A problem they’re experiencing is not being sure the person being interviewed is the same person who ends up doing the job.
Right now the process is:
get a copy of the ID
do a video interview
a telephonic or email reference check
They have started requesting selfies to visually compare to the ID; unfortunately this does not prevent the issue entirely as it’s still very much eyeballing and gut feel.
The jobs interact with customers and require technical specialised knowledge so it’s quite serious.
For anyone interviewing in South Africa (or anywhere else), how do you actually verify ID matches person being interviewed and person doing the job?
