Would you refund the money if you couldn't complete the walk?
I had a sort of last minute request from my neighbor 2 doors down to drop in on her dog Matty while she was away at a wedding. We say hello when we see each, exchange pleasantries and all that but I don't know her super well. When she saw me outside a few days ago (she knows I do Rover) she asked if I could just make sure Matty was walked and fed and we arranged for me to meet him. She had him on a leash outside at first, I held out my hand for him to sniff and then we went in and she showed me around. She explained that he was rescued when previous owners dumped him and he's very fearful. He seemed fine with me at the time but that's because she was there.
When I got there today, Matty was wary of me right away and retreated to the bedroom. She'd been gone for about 8 hours at this point (I had previous plans during the day which she was aware of) so I thought he'd be excited for a walk, but he wouldn't let me get near him. I tried slowly approaching him with the leash but he was barking and growing and giving all the signs that he was warning to bite. I wasn't going to risk trying to grab his collar. He's a large mixed breed dog, about 50-60 pounds I would guess, there's some Boxer in there. I got him to come outside in their little outdoor patio area so he did pee and I did feed him. I messaged my neighbor explaining everything and she said thanks for trying, as long as he peed it's fine.
The whole thing lasted about 20 minutes because I just didn't feel comfortable and Matty very clearly didn't want me in the house. I wouldn't normally ask about a refund if I had to drive, but her door is like 50 feet from mine and I didn't - couldn't - actually walk him. I'm questioning myself whether it's right to keep the money or return it.
