Looking for some advice on how to handle this situation.

We recently moved into a ranch-style home and noticed that the rooms on the far ends are about 3–4 degrees cooler than the center of the house. We had three HVAC companies come out to evaluate:

  • Company 1 recommended replacing all ductwork
  • Company 2 suggested installing a smaller HVAC system
  • Company 3 recommended installing dampers to redirect airflow (noting that a nearby bathroom was getting excessive heat)

Given the cost and logic, we went with the damper solution. They completed the install and verified airflow at the registers, but it’s made little to no difference when I check the temperature of the room.

This is important for us because we have a baby on the way and that room will be the nursery.

The company seems open to corrective work. They’ve mentioned potentially adding a smart thermostat with sensors, thinking the system may be reaching the set temperature before the far rooms catch up.

My question is: what would be a reasonable ask here?

  • Should I expect them to correct the issue at no additional cost?
  • Or ask for a partial refund/credit to apply toward a different solution (like the thermostat)?

At this point, it feels like I paid for a solution that didn’t actually address the problem.
