STI Miseducation, Bacterial Vaginosis, and “The Friendly Parasite”

Trichomoniasis is tested for in her local health department as part of routine STI screenings.

(I cut the rest of the post off because she starts going on about natural parasite cleanses for the vagina and why she thinks they work)

Exact text from the image:
“Sexual health practitioner shared this with me 🤷🏼‍♀️ Yes this is a real thing and it’s one of the most common STIs, millions of America women have it sitting in their system right now and nobody’s testing for it as its faster for gynos to write “bacterial vaginosis” on the chart, prescribe antibiotics, and move on.

But the fishy smell is not BV, it’s a small friendly parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. And yes it’s friendly because while it’s not life-threatening, it does something very annoying as its the reason women find antibiotics, boric acid or probiotics solutions don’t work long term and the smell returns.

And it breaks my heart because so many women think it’s hygiene when it’s literally a parasite eating tissue.

And this happens because as we age and go through hormonal changes our vaginal pH rises which creates ideal conditions for parasites to attach and feed. And when they do they latch onto vaginal tissue with surface proteins and digest the vaginal walls, giving off the fishy odor. .

But there’s two natural ingredients and when you have them in your system the parasite simply dies without the rebound smell of using boric acid and probiotics.”
