The status of teachers in Australia - have your say in the research.

Edit: Former teacher group is at capacity, thanks so much.

Hi fellow teachers,

I am a former teacher now completing research on the status of teachers across Australia (Ethics approval: Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee ID 51551). I would love to hear your insights on how (and if) teachers are valued, respected, appreciated and remunerated appropriately, and how teacher status is experienced in your everyday interactions in our schools and communities.

I’m currently looking for some of the following to share their perspectives on teacher status via participating in a 45-minute Zoom focus group:

·       Former teachers who have left the profession

·       Retired teachers

·       School leaders

Participants will receive a $50 gift card in appreciation of their time and contribution.

If you are interested, please complete the focus group expression of interest form linked here: https://monash.syd1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0CgKeRSBJvaFCEC

Our current teacher focus groups have reached capacity. However, current teachers are still invited to share their perspectives via an anonymous open-ended survey. You can share as much or as little as you would like.

Please find the teacher survey linked here:

Thanks so much for your time and take care.

Have your say on the status of the teaching profession in Australia

Evening everyone,

I'm a former teacher who is completing my PhD thesis on understanding teacher status in Australia.

What is this study about?

The reasons behind the sea of red AEU shirts in Melbourne CBD this morning also underpin and drive this research - what is the status of teachers in Australia? Are Australian teachers valued, respected, appreciated, adequately remunerated in comparison to other professionals? I want to hear how students, teachers and school leaders perceive these dimensions of status and how they show up in their daily interactions.

Who is eligible to participate?

You are able to participate if you live in Australia and are a:

- High school student

- Teacher (pre-service, current and former)

- School leader

What does the study involve?

Participating in a small focus group, conducted via videoconference, where you will have the opportunity to share your personal perspectives on and experiences of teacher status. In appreciation of your time and contribution to this research, you will receive a gift card.

How do I express interest in participating?

Please complete the expression of interest form using the following survey link:

https://monash.syd1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0CgKeRSBJvaFCEC

I would greatly appreciate your support in sharing this study with any teachers, school leaders, or high school students who may be interested in contributing their perspectives.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions. Have a good evening!

Ethics approval: Full approval granted by Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee ID 51551.
