Something you haven't said to someone who was wrong?

You ever seen someone say something that was wrong, or do something that was wrong, either in a fic, comment, social media post, etc, but didn't say anything at the time?

Now is your chance🎉

Feel free to yell it out here. What were they wrong about?

I wanna play too😭

(The tag makes it sound like I'm angry or salty😂 I promise I'm not)

You ever been in a fandom where you see and write the characters a certain way, but then everyone else sees it different? Especially if their 'vibe' (to call it that) is so different from yours. Like, the canon has pretty messed up and dark stories, but then the main fandom is more 'silly' about it. Which seems like such good fun, and for a lot of things I can see multiple sides of characters and stories. But sometimes it's just too far😭 (As in, it's not for me. Not that it's too far and they shouldn't do it😂)

Especially when it was a dead fandom and you kinda revived it, but talk was not that much. Then someone else comes in with that kind of interpretation and people are loving it and talking about it all the time.

This makes me sound so salty or jealous and I promise I'm not! It's nothing to do with harsh feeling towards them, it's great that they get along and have fun.

It's only just standing on the outsides and wishing I could join😭

And I try, but then the ideas you jump in with get ignored and it runs in such a different direction. Especially if it was your idea at first😢 Still fun to see them have this many ideas and silly stories with the characters🥰 But yeah.

Anyway, thanks for listening to my pity party😂 I feel old.

Edit: this is not meant to turn into a mocking or hate fest on what other people like, please. Different interpretations of characters and stories are valid! Even if it doesn't really match canon, we're all here to have fun at the end of the day.

What's that one thing?

Okay, maybe not with a face of disgust like the meme😂

But what is that one thing you were never really into/never understood the appeal, until something made it click for you? A fandom, pairing, fic, something else?

What was it, and what made you like it?

It doesn't have to be something sexual, by the way. Could be something simple like flower shop au's, or old man yaoi ships or something as well!

How do comments make you feel?

Authors, please reveal, how do comments make you feel?

(Positive comments, nothing negative here!)

For all those wondering if commenting is worth it; here is a thread to read😉

What is something you've seen people act superior about (that doesn't really make sense)?

Sometimes I'll be seeing a comment of someone saying that they are doing X thing, which makes them a lot better than people doing Y thing. But then it's about something so... insignificant, that I can't help but roll my eyes and laugh. It's that condescending attitude towards people doing nothing wrong, about something that doesn't really affect others at all😂

So here's one for the discussion: what is something non-important that you've seen people act superior about?

.

My own latest example: someone was bragging about staying in fandoms for a long time, and they looked down at those who jump from fandom to fandom within months (especially when that fandom is 'popular'). As someone who's both been obsessed with things for years, and lost interest in things after a month or two, it made me laugh😂. Ah yes, how much better you are for long obsessions, rather than those simple minded trend chasers. Of course of course👑😔

Topics you don't really talk about because people won't read nuance?

Are there any topics surrounding ao3 or fandom in general, that you have some opinions on or like to talk about/discuss, but you don't really do, because (most) people refuse to see the nuance needed for your stance? Topics where you opinion will be read in the worst way possible, without any nuance, and you feel like you need an essay-long disclaimer on every comment you make just so people won't take it in bad faith (and they still do😅)

(And I think we all know about anti's regarding pro stances😉)

What's the point of....?

You ever had someone ask "what the point of..... {type of fic}??". (Usually paired with "it's just ...., there's no point to that.")

Please share what that was, and what the 'point' actually is for you! Whether you write it, read it, ship it, or anything like that!

Just trying to collect a bunch of positive things from people talking about why they love what they love🥰

Something you've always wanted to say to someone?

Some things are wiser to not say to someone. Some things you were never able to say. Some things just slipped away.

What is something you've wanted to say to someone in fandom but never did? Write it down here, like a metaphorical letter that we will burn.

It can be a good thing, a bad thing, a vent, an apology, a compliment, a confession, anything!

Am bored. Challenge: What's your fandom hot take? (And don't downvote hot takes!)

Let's see if we can get the top comments to be actually hot, not ice cold 'daring today aren't we' takes😂😂

Challenge: don't downvote hot takes. If you disagree, give em an upvote!

Feel free to discuss of course. But if you're mean, or rude, or belittle people, or any of that; onto the pile of shame with you! (I don't actually have any power so please just be nice okay thank you😊)

It doesn't mean ..., it means ...!

I'm sure we've all seen many phrases used in the fandom community over the years. From "write for yourself" to "bookmarks are a reader's space" to just tags or sayings.

But which ones do you see misused often? Either by someone using it in their post, their fic (like a tag) or given as a reply/advice to people?

I'm very proud of teenage me and still love those fics, but girl-

Honestly, all the love to the confidence and courage I had to just do things and not overthink them and love my own work. And all the love to everyone out there who is also doing that❤️

But looking back, it is kinda funny😂

But hey, that shows improvement, right?

"Why is my fic less popular than those with wayyyy worse writing?"

Okay I'm sorry if this is mean but-😅

Whenever someone says they don't understand how they don't get more engagement, because they know that their fic is objectively better than 'most out there', I just feel so awkward.

It's great that someone has confidence in their own fic, but why are these statements always so awkward? Especially because they often put down other people's fic😅Nothing wrong with acknowledging that not every fic is well written, but I swear, every time, the more the person who makes those claims talks, the more they just seem so salty and mean about other fics.

And the statements that they're 'objectively better'. So you can tell objectively that you're better, but you can't see what those others fics do right that makes people like them?

I don't know. Obviously, I haven't seen every work of everyone who claims these things. But from every person that I did see it, it was, at least to me, usually clear why other works did 'better'. Was their writing good? For sure! But one person went on and on about the same things, which yes made for long chapters, but it was very boring and overexplained. They thought it was really deep and great. (Which it can be, but that's why objectivity is so hard. To me, it dragged on. To others, it was nice).

Someone else thought their plot was brilliant and smart, but the leaps in logic didn't really make sense to me😅 and you could kindaaaa tell they thought they were really smart. It was just awkward.

Or sometimes it's just vibes. Sometimes the work is really well written and other works can feel sloppy. But they just don't 'get' the characters the way others do. You can be the most brilliant writer out there, but sometimes your view on the characters is just not what others agree with.

Or the 'I put so much work and effort in it, and those other fics get way more attention'. But most people put a lot of work and effort in it! It might be different where that goes to, but it's just kinda... rude to imply you're the only one putting in effort?

I do get that frustration plays a part, and I think we've all seen that one fic that we just don't get why it's so popular. But whenever it's about many other fics doing 'better' than someone's fic that they think is 'objectively better', I'm just... yeahhhh. If so many fics do 'better', maybe you're just missing the mark of what people want to read. No need to put down other fics because of that😅

What is something you'd like to tell new users that could be helpful?

Not stuff like 'just read the FAQ' or something😂

But things that could just be nice to know, a thread full of small, but simple and helpful tips!❤️

Here's mine:

  • Bookmarks are public by default! Everyone can see them, unless you select that you want them to be private
  • / is for romantic pairings. & is for platonic!
