Cleaning solutions

Are trusts legally responsible for providing staff with training on using new cleaning solutions that are hazardous to health?

Off duty requests.

Is a ward manager allowed to stop someone requesting a particular shift because there's a ward day trip out on that day, and they don't want people asking for it off, if they aren't going on the trip. I've just tried to, and it's saying I've exceeded the permitted requests for that period, even though I've not requested any. But, it'll allow me to request the previous day off!! I need it off for a different reason. Hope this makes sense

Overworked

I am absolutely pig sick of this job. Short staffed..... again, just me working the floor and the nurse in charge, and two HCA. I've done all the meds, breakfast and dinner rounds, whilst simultaneously feeding patients whilst the HCAs have a chat and the nurse in charge disappears yet again. The nurse for the late shift has arrived and sat on her arse, not asked me what needs doing, what's overdue, nothing. Most of my shifts are like this. Patients look unkempt, people don't change clothes with food down them, they don't shave them, brush their hair or change mucky bedding. It drives me insane. I just don't have time to do all the meds, on a crappily slow system, feed, and sort discharges etc. I honestly feel like walking out and never going back.

Working with students

Is it ok to say you cannot do the medicine round with a student nurse. I don't mean just for the sake of it, I'm very happy to do any other work with students. My issue is I have a brain tumour and it affects my concentration, so when I'm doing the meds round, I have to really concentrate on what I'm doing and I can't be talking and teaching students at the same time, eg what different medications are for, side effects etc. I'm not a mentor but I do work with students sometimes, as I say, I'm more than happy to do this, but meds rounds, I'm really finding difficult if I have to teach at the same time. I don't want students to think I'm a miserable old bag.

Online training

Is it reasonable, that if I go into work around 30 minutes before shift start, to do online training, that I ask if I can leave 30 minutes early, or is it cheeky? I just don't get any time to do online training otherwise. I'm being hassled to get my compliance up 😑

Redirooms

Does anyone's wards still use the Redirooms. I discovered today that infection control have had them all removed. No idea why.

CQC

Has anyone ever reported and raised concerns about their workplace to the CQC, and if so, what was the outcome?

Desperate to leave

I've had it up to here the last two days. Left to be the only trained nurse apart from the manager who's been busy doing ward round, board round, meetings etc. The only nurse for eleven patients, every one needing two staff to move, several artificial feeds, snotty demanding relatives making snide remarks within my earshot of how horrible the nurses are. Management whinging about this paperwork not done yet, that weight not done yet, this box not ticked blah blah. Twice I've gone home and cried my eyes out. I just can't bear to go back. HCAs just say the priority needs to be patient care, washing, feeding, toileting and of course this is true, but they don't get that my priority is observations, medications, documentation etc. I feel ashamed when I see a patient sitting there with their breakfast down their clothes and I've had no opportunity to change them, and nobody else has bothered. I've never felt so crap and flat in my life. I loathe this job.
