So I decided to experiment with my art style for my manga I’m aiming to get published eventually! The drawings in the slideshow go in order of how recently I did them, the first being from today. I decided due to the content of my story that a more realistic approach to the art style would fit better. For some more context, I will be pitching it to a seinen magazine, when I get to that stage (fingers crossed!) as I think the story is quite heavy/dark and my message would resonate better with an older audience. Opinions on the artistic change and any feedback in general would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi! So basically I’ve had a story that I’ve been developing over the years and it’s kind of grown up with me but over the last six months I’ve really focussed on completing it. I feel the premise is unique and it touches on a lot of important subject matters focussing on character development and how past events affect a person. Anyway I’ve reached a point where the story itself is almost fully complete and I realised I really wanted to convey it through manga but don’t really know how to get to that stage. Feedback on the drawings I’ve made would be really helpful too as I’m unsure if my art is good enough or if it stands out enough for people to want to give the manga a chance. The first image is a panel idea, the second image is of one of my main characters and the final three are character cards to see if their designs look cohesive together. The art is traditional as I don’t have digital experience and also lack the equipment at the moment. The other thing is that I’m 16 and from the uk so I’m wondering if that complicates my goal of getting it published. I’m assuming I’d have to have parental consent to move to Japan but I’m not sure how to get to that stage. I do know is my target demographic’s going to be seinen due to tone, events etc; and that there are quite a few different competitions and companies that I can enter/pitch to. Apart from that I’m unsure so any feedback/advice would be much appreciated!
