How reliable is the Paper Pro in 2026? Ghosting/yellowing fixed by software, or hardware? Worth it over an iPad Air?
I’m seriously considering buying a reMarkable Paper Pro, but reliability is my biggest concern. Price isn’t really an issue — I care much more about avoiding hardware defects or ending up in a replacement cycle.
I’ve seen older and newer posts about:
- ghosting (especially yellow ghosting),
- yellow tint/yellowing over time,
- uneven screen color,
- refresh issues,
- some people saying updates improved things,
- others saying replacements solved the problem.
So I’d like to ask people who have owned the Paper Pro for months:
- If you had ghosting or yellowing issues, were they eventually fixed through software updates, or did you need a replacement device?
- Do you think the newer production batches are noticeably better than earlier ones?
- Are current Paper Pros more reliable than they were at launch?
- For owners who had multiple units: was the difference between devices significant?
- When do you expect a next generation / improved Paper Pro? 1–2 years? Longer?
- If you were buying today, would you get a Paper Pro or an iPad Air instead?
For context: I’m coming from an iPad Pro. I’m not looking for another general-purpose tablet — what attracts me to reMarkable is the writing feel and the idea of fewer distractions. I like the concept of a device dedicated to thinking, reading PDFs, and taking notes.
I’d appreciate long-term experiences, especially from people who had issues and either kept the device or replaced it.
