6 tool Turret for my Paramount C1000 lathe
Built this about 6 months ago, after being used almost daily since completion, i can safely say its better in every way for doing more that 5 of something, less than 5 of something and a regular tailstock is probably just as quick
So some specs:
- The turret has a stroke of 250mm - which that in itself makes it better than the original tailstock that only had 100mm
- it takes 20mm shank tools - convenient for me as i run 20mm shank tools in my mills in a sort of metric knockoff of tormach TTS setup
- drilling capacity - ive done up to 25mm in 4140, havent tried bigger because i havent had the need to drill anything bigger yet....
Rails: hgr20 ebay specials - weirdly ridgid
Screw: 16mm 5mm pitch ballscrew, its backdrivable so i can use it to powertap anything from m3 to m12
Locking: 2 nuts under the main carriage, accessable with an 18mm ratchet spanner
I also made it fully adjustable so when I do inevitably crash a drill into the chuck i can re align it.
My reasoning: the stock tailstock was only mt3, flimsy as, and was not machined correctly from factory - 0.5mm above centerline, so instead of re machining it, built a turret
So yeah, let me know what you think
