Mid 2012 15” MBP deployed for A/V systems control @ UPenn Commencement. How many of y’all are still rocking these older machines?
I worked as a systems tech/A2 this year at UPenn Commencement, decided to throw my 2012 MBP into the line of fire for this one. It amazes me that this thing does as well as it does 14 years on, enough for me to trust it in a critical show position. The anti-glare display is clutch for an outdoor event like this.
It’s also an event saver at least once a year, due to the fact it still has an optical drive. Sometimes a client will last minute hand us a CD with music or a fire announcement VOG recording. I’m able to rip it into iTunes and move on with the show super quick.

If you’re wondering about the gaff tape, I threw more ram into this thing as I was heading to Philadelphia and forgot to throw the screws back in.
How many of y’all are still rocking these machines these days? And what’s your use case?
