Why are tech companies allowed to stop including chargers "for the environment," but then sell them separately in massive plastic packaging?

I was unboxing a new phone today and it honestly pissed me off. They all claim they removed the power brick from the box to "reduce the carbon footprint and save the planet." Fine, I get the logistics of making the retail box smaller.

But here is the part that blows my mind: if I actually need a fast charger, I have to order it separately. It arrives in its own individual box, wrapped in plastic film, shipped in a separate delivery truck, burning extra fuel. How on earth is this eco-friendly?

It feels like they just unbundled the product to make us pay an extra $30, and then used "saving the trees" as a PR shield so we don't call them out on it. Am I missing some actual hidden macroeconomics here, or is this just pure, unfiltered corporate gaslighting?
