UNDERDRIVEN GUILLOTINE MAINTAINACE - Folding instead of shearing.

Hello All,

I am a small town metal fabrication teacher who is relatively new to this job but has a fair bit of non-industry experience. Our school has been struggling to get anyone out to service our plant and I am at my wits end trying to get my guillotine to work.

Plant - underdriven hydraulic guillotine 2.5 meter length capacity and 0.5 - 4mm thickness - probably at least a decade or two old. No service history that can be found - has seen some hard use. See pictures attached.

Problem - When cutting 0.5 to 1mm steel plate sheets, it cuts to about 1.8 meters along the length but then begins to fold it. I have tried with 2 mm AL which sheers all the way along but it is clearly not properly sheering near the end.

Attempted Solutions - Lubed all the points I could find, fixed a bush that had somehow worked its way out (no idea how) and attempted to readjust the blade distance to .7 as appropriate to cut the .5 sheets, but this resulted in the blade going down but struggling to come back up - doesn't seem to be striking the anvil but maybe too close?

Any suggestions or help would be hugely appreciated by this small town highschool metal teacher!
