My First Little Creature
I made this guy with the Crochet Impkins book by Megan Lapp, and a piece from her Crochet Creatures book. He has a couple small colored glass pieces in his bottom for some weight, but no wires or other supports.
The tail braces him and keeps him from tipping over under the weight of the hat, the scarf supports his scrawny little neck. I was worried that the scarf would push down on the wings, but I was able to slip the scarf just in front of them.
I did the sitting body style 2, arm/leg style 2, pocket belly, the dragon/dinosaur tail from the creatures book but 2 rounds shorter, 4 feather wings (the two weren’t showy enough for me), and the twisted mushroom cap.
All the pieces have been done for a couple/few weeks. I was literally just putting off sewing the wings on. 😅 I’ve been crocheting for less than a year, and I taught myself with a couple woobles, and now YouTube. So I’m not familiar or super comfortable with less structured/more freehand type patterns. But this was super fun. And I’m so proud that I was able to make him self supporting without any extra materials!
I wasn’t sure where to mark the end of the round with my stitch markers and the sl st, ch 1 joins, so I know that the seam on the creature isn’t quite right. I did get that figured out with the hat though, seam’s perfect on that. But any other tips or constructive criticism? 😁
