Sweet Pea, a tripod Chesapeake Bay Retriever
This is Sweet Pea. When she was about a year old, she was found wandering the winter wilderness in Colorado with a badly wounded leg. She was rescued but the vets were unable to save the leg. We adopted her about a year later and this video was taken about two years after her amputation. As you can tell, she loved the water and LOVED to run and could often out maneuver the other dogs as she learned to skid and pivot on her legless side to switch directions faster than her playmates.
When we first adopted her, our vet gave us such great advice: (1) keep her trim so excess weight isn't put on the remaining leg, and (b) keep her active so the leg stays strong. She was such an amazing dog and stayed active until she succumbed to cancer when she was 14. But she never let her disability hinder her in any way and lived a very long, happy, and active life.
