Flagstone is damaged. need advise

Hello Everyone,

I had my porch and stairs professionally renovated with new flagstones about one year ago.

After the first winter, I started losing grout in several areas and decided to repair it myself. Unfortunately, I chose the wrong grout (a premixed product) and the wrong color. Since I used a technique more appropriate for regular ceramic tiles, I was unable to completely remove the grout residue from the flagstones.

This year, I tried using "Goof Off" to remove the remaining grout haze. It helped somewhat, but not completely, and it looks like removing it entirely may be impossible.

At the same time, I have started noticing more and more light-colored patches appearing in the middle of some stones. Originally, all of the stones were gray.

To summarize, I have two issues:

  1. Damage and staining caused by the grout.
  2. The apparent loss of the top surface layer on some random stones, exposing a lighter color underneath (as shown in the photos).

Is there any way to fix these issues, or at least improve the appearance?

Thank you.
