Anyone running a 24‑bay+ JBOD at home for preservation stuff?

I’ve doing a bunch of VHS digitizing and restoration, and I'm running out of space with my current setup of two Mediasonic 8‑bays with about 271TB and they’ve been great, but are basically full.

I started looking at 24–36 bay JBOD chassis, but most of what I find looks like loud, power hungry enterprise gear. I'd need to do some tinkering, which does intimidate me a bit and I'm not sure if the effort is worth it.

So I’m curious what other hoarders are doing. Is anyone actually running a 24‑bay+ JBOD at home? If so, how bad is the noise/power draw in real life?Any other “home‑friendly” options I should look at or maybe I just grab a third Mediasonic and keep it simple?

Thinking about a 24–36 bay JBOD, does anyone actually run these at home?

I could really use some advice from people who understand servers better than I do. Right now my setup is pretty simple: I’m running two Mediasonic 8‑bay enclosures, and they’ve been fine. But I’m running out of space again, so I started looking into bigger storage options.

That’s where I fell down the rabbit hole.

I’ve been researching 24‑bay and 36‑bay JBOD chassis, but everything I find seems to be enterprise‑grade: loud, power‑hungry, and honestly way more complicated than I expected. I’m overwhelmed and not sure if this is even realistic for a home setup.

At this point I’m wondering if I should just buy a third Mediasonic 8‑bay and save myself the headache.

So I’m hoping to hear from people who’ve actually done this:

  • Does anyone here run a 24–36 bay JBOD at home?
  • How bad is the noise and power consumption in real‑world use?
  • Are there any home‑friendly large‑bay options I might be missing?
  • Or is sticking with another Mediasonic enclosure the smarter move?
