What was the point of the curse of the Eva?
In Rebuild-3, we are introduced to the “Curse of the Evangelion”, which is a disorder that encompasses many symptoms resulting from piloting an Evangelion. These are:
- Stopping bodily growth(Assumably at 14 years old for everyone as it doesn’t make sense that Asuka AND Mari would both be afflicted with being perpetually 14 if they started piloting earlier than that) the only exception to this is hair growth which seems to be normal.
- Lack of need for solid food.
- Inability to sleep.
So why? Genuinely this serves no purpose right? At first I thought it was going to be some weird stuff about wanting to maintain Asuka as a love interest for Shinji, but Asuka is very rarely presented as a love interest from this point on. So why not make her an adult? It fits Asuka’s character in Rebuild 3 and 4, as a (slightly) more mature and well rounded person and as she says “he doesn’t need a lover, he needs a mother.” Now I’m not suggesting Asuka to become that but an adult Mari is right there… so why exactly did they make the Curse of the Eva? Please tell me if I’m stupid.
