Too much to bear
My partner & I moved into our very first place together in February, upon moving in we noticed how horribly different the model unit we were shown was to the unit we were given, there was many clear maintenance issues that were completely ignored, the toilet was leaking, there were many stains on the vinyl flooring and it was peeling, cracks & crevices exposed in the trim, as well as a large two inch gap in our front door which caused me to be eaten alive by bugs at night. worst of all there was a CLEAR roach problem, now I’m not well adversed on renting rights because this was the first lease my name was on but in hindsight we definitely should’ve asked to see the unit before signing our lease, we were excited and tired from moving, anyways I was extremely upset to see the terrible condition our unit was in so we reached out to management & communicated our concerns. They were seemingly helpful but told us things that were absolutely untrue such as a cleaning crew had come prior to us moving in & things of that nature, they told us they would schedule someone to come clean “again” and mentioned maintenance coming out, maintenance did absolutely nothing & nobody ever came to clean. Fast forward to us deciding to move to a different unit in another building, we did a walk through with the apartment manager at the time & we pointed out what we would like taken care of such as the vinyl literally pealing up so bad the old flooring is nearly exposed, the bathtub was peeling paint, as well as the issue of us finding a roach sack, she said she’d get maintenance & pest control on it yada yada all that, we get the keys maybe a week later at this point pest control has already been there & I go over to clean which I already had planned on doing in the first unit when we moved in, a live German roach is running across the floor and I’m not even there for 5 minutes. I leave because at this point I hadn’t seen a live one before this only live Palmetto bugs & dead German (which I was NOT familiar with how common they were since moving to AZ) but they have pest control come back out before we finally move to the second unit in March because it was the lesser of two evils & we used what we had to move here so it wasn’t really an option to find another place so soon. We’ve been dealing with non stop issues with this place, such as seeing more roaches & having pest control come treat once or more a month, our fridge stopped working and maintenance took their time resulting in all of our food to spoil, I also asked management if they could reimburse us & of course I was ignored, we recently found a German roach on our pillow to which I notified management & sprayed vinegar to possibly deter them because I was utterly terrified of them being in the bedroom, this ended up causing MULTIPLE bedbugs to emerge from the rather large cracks between the carpet and baseboard, i notified management & didn’t hear back for almost a week so we sent an email stating actions we would take if we don’t hear back from them with a cause of action soon to which they replied they will have someone come do an inspection, pest control came to spray & another technician confirmed bed bugs. We haven’t heard any kind of schedule for treatment & this was last Thursday. Since the bedbugs were coming from the cracks where the bottom of the trim is poorly placed & not from our mattress or anywhere else I also emailed management to inquire about help with things we would need to help with the treatment such as large garbage bags, a possible mattress cover & help with the cost of laundering everything, they denied fault (there’s no evidence of where they came from) & said that is not something they do. The question of whether the neighboring units were being treated was brought up by me in the same email & that was completely ignored. The most recent issue that honestly made me want to write this post is our kitchen sink clogging & filling with old food water that is absolutely putrid, we put in a maintenance request Friday morning & they just came out today just to say they need to come back tomorrow, a few hrs later I realized they left the pipe leaking with nothing under to catch the water & a black sort of dirt below the pipes, i understand not being able to fix something right away & needing to come back but to leave it leaking & just disgusting is kind of beyond me. I’m at my wits end, any advice on how to deal with management, or possibly get out of our lease would be very much appreciated, thank you for reading to the end of my ramble & thank you in advance if you have any suggestions.
