Working where your child studies
For those of you whose children attend the school where you work, how long do you plan to stay at your current school?
Do you try to stay at the same school for as long as possible so your child can remain there, or do you change schools when a better opportunity comes along? If you’ve changed schools, how often has it happened, and how did it affect your child academically and socially?
I have a 4-year-old son, and ideally I’d like him to stay at the same school for as long as possible. However, I recently accepted a position that seems decent rather than ideal because I wasn’t able to find a better job. I’m concerned that once my contract ends, I may want to look for a better opportunity. At the same time, I don’t like the idea of my son having to change schools every couple of years.
We live in Bangkok, and I can’t realistically afford to work at one international school while paying tuition for him to attend a different one.
I’d be interested to hear how other international teachers have handled this situation.
