I read this in 2022 from a reading list at a private school I worked at. incredible book that id like to share with a friend! it was about two kids in Ancient Rome, I think from different backgrounds. the girl might have been friends with Plato. at the end of the book there is a womens gathering, and the girl is maybe killed? has a bit of magical realism feel. I feel like they described the girl as not traditionally attractive, more short and squat than people preferred. Her friend maybe was the son of a blacksmith. I think the girl would leave her house when she wasn’t supposed to to experience the city. any help identifying would be appreciated!
