Hi everyone,

I’m an F-1 student and considering doing remote work for Mercor as an independent contractor.

I know F-1 students generally need authorization for off-campus work while physically in the U.S. My question is: if I do the work entirely while I’m outside the United States, such as during winter/summer break in my home country, would that still be an issue for F-1 status?

Does it matter that Mercor is U.S.-based or that the role is independent contractor work?

I’ll check with my DSO, but has anyone dealt with this before?
