Tenancy change problems
Hi everyone having a bit of a nightmare and would be incredibly grateful if someone can give some advice.
I live in london and my current housemate wants to move out of our flat and we have found someone to replace her. Back in March our landlord said that we would be able to do a change of tenancy but have now said that they will be suspending tenancy changes until further notice.
They said that if she will want to leave then it will end the tenancy for us both and that if I want to stay there I would have to start a new tenancy but they could not guarantee that I would get it over someone else (though they said would likely prioritise me as I have been a good tenant).
I am so desperate to stay in this flat and I love it so much, I’ve put so much effort into decorating it and don’t want to have to leave. I am worried that they would increase the rent with a new tenancy, which I couldn’t really afford, or make me move out and back in which defeats a lot of the reason for wanting to stay. Does anyone have any experience with this or advice? Feels like the renters rights bill is kind of working against me here which sucks !
