Career Pivot?

I love making games; my exposure has only been to Solodev, but the actual work and day-to-day of building has been incredibly satisfying.

I'd like to make games full-time, but at this point, I don't have the skill set or portfolio to get a job in the industry, and I'd like to.

Running in parallel, I've been accepted into a graduate program that will provide opportunities to get a job in an industry I've found unenjoyable from experience. It is supposed to be financially stable.

For those in the game industry who found video games to be aligned with their passion and pursued a career in development, doing solo, indie, or commercial dev, who have released games, is it always satisfying to create video games, or does that satisfaction wane? If it waned, why? How long have you been developing for?

I appreciate your thoughts and guidance, thanks!
