Context - Protesting at India Gate is not allowed that is why most protests happen at Jantar Mantar
They did not have permits, and not the police have detained them.
Update - Protest at Jantar Mantar is to be held tomorrow with proper permits and lawyer involvement. Today, the students were alone and did not have much support from adults.
