SEO in the AI Overview Era: My Biggest Learning So Far

Been leading SEO for a while, and one thing has become very clear to me in the last few months with AI Overviews rolling out:

If you want more intentful traffic, you can’t rely only on informational blogs anymore.

What’s working better for us lately is building more actionable/value-driven pages like:

  • Landing pages
  • Free tools
  • Calculators
  • Templates
  • Comparison pages
  • Interactive resources

A couple of observations from my experience:

  1. Action-oriented keywords still don’t trigger AI Overviews as aggressively (for now).
So there’s still a strong opportunity to capture clicks directly from SERPs.

  2. The traffic coming to these pages usually has much higher conversion intent.
People landing on a calculator/tool/page with a specific need are often much closer to taking action than someone casually reading an informational article.

That said, I’m definitely not saying blogs are dead.
Blogs are still important for:

  • Topical authority
  • Brand building
  • Internal linking
  • Overall search presence
  • Educating users higher up the funnel

I just think the balance is shifting.
More SEO teams may need to think beyond “publish more blogs” and start investing in product-like SEO assets.

Curious to hear what others in SEO are seeing lately.
