How many months is considered child abandonment?
I’m not sure how to start this, but i(F18, Location: North Carolina) moved out of my moms house back in November of 2025, she had me, her and my sister homeless before I moved in with my current partner, I took it upon myself to send my sister to live with our aunt, my mother refused to sign any paperwork, and soon after my sister went no contact.
It’s been about 7 months since then, and I saw online that after 6, it’s considered child abandonment.
Now my mom is trying to go forcefully get my sister, and trying to rope me into it by giving her the address, obviously, I won’t, but she’s trying to pry it out of me.
So TLDR: how long does it take for abandoning a child to be considered child abandonment in the eyes of the law?
