Parakeet has possible crop blockage or infection.
My parakeet (has splayed legs shes 6 years old) was seen by a vet for a possible crop infection/sour crop and they found yeast in her droppings. They prescribed medication (antibiotics/antifungal + crop meds) and told me to withhold food until the crop empties because they’re concerned about possible crop stasis or an obstruction.
It’s now been about 2 days and the crop still does not seem to be shrinking much. The vet told me to continue monitoring and call back when they reopen, unless she worsens.
She is still alert/responsive but I’m really anxious and wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar with their bird. Did the crop eventually start emptying with meds alone? How long did it take? Did it end up being yeast/sour crop vs an actual blockage?
Please no harsh comments — I already took her to the vet and I’m following their instructions. Just looking to hear others’ experiences while I wait.
