Hello! I’m wondering if anyone can help or has been in a similar situation. My parents are travelling to Madeira from South Africa in July. They are staying at a cousins home in Madeira while they visit. The cousin needs to fill in the Term of Responsibility letter - which states the following “the present declaration, duly stamped by the competent authority, must be presented (original) to the consular authorities competent for examining the visa application of the person invited”
Now the tricky bit is, that the cousin lives in the UK and they are staying in her holiday home. I am also based in the UK hence I am trying to help them.
Who is considered to be the competent authority that needs to sign this in the Uk? I have googled and it is suggested a notary or a solicitor , however this seems very extreme. I have been hosted by family and friends in other Schengen states and this has never been a requirement aside from the letter of invitation.
I hope someone can help 😊
