SONG STRUCTURE

Dear community, after one year playing alone I finally had the gut to meet other people to play together. Bold choice since I really am noticing the massive difference between following your song tab or key sheet at home and play with your metronome/drum beat weather with other people, the thing is quite different..

Main problem I am noticing: cant follow or understand the structure of the song. So to say verse/chorus and all these stuff makes no sense to me. Where should I start to learn? I can play and follow along a tab but its not the same in rehearsals, maybe you play a couple of bar less of something and it still sounds like the song... idk if I make sense.

Q1) How I learn the building blocks of a song?

Same problem arise when I try to follow the guitarist on what is his personal composition. I know intervals, and I would expect someone to tell me root note and which intervals they are playing or which notes, but I cant yet figure it out just by looking another guitar... its confusing. Is this normal?

Bonus Q2) How does following a guitarist work?

If you feel like sharing any input reading this I would be extremely grateful.
