Why Don't I Sound Like Myself on Recordings? Tips for Beginners

https://preview.redd.it/eixla0wbvwih1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=7ae3880cfb2af99306fa513f6c754923db35facf

Set up the first microphone, hit record, and played it back, but you might think, "That doesn't sound like me at all" - you're not alone. Almost every beginner goes through this.

🥼The Science: Two Ways You Hear Yourself

When you speak, you hear your voice through two pathways:

  • Air conduction - sound travels through the air from your mouth to your ears.
  • Bone conduction - sound vibrations travel through your skull and jawbone directly to your inner ear.

Bone conduction emphasizes lower-frequency vibrations, making your voice sound deeper, fuller, and more resonant to you. When you listen to a recording, however, only the air-conducted sound is captured. The bone conduction part is completely missing. That's why your recorded voice often sounds thinner, higher-pitched, or less "rich" than what you're used to hearing in your own head.

Your recorded voice is exactly what everyone else hears when you speak. It's not "wrong" - it's just the version you're not used to.

https://preview.redd.it/vtfc9asfvwih1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5402c4172a85f0666402a0fe4de38285f7954758

🗣️Three Tips to Get Comfortable with Your Recorded Voice

  1. Keep the right distance - Position your microphone about one fist away (roughly 15-20 cm / 6-8 inches) from your mouth. This prevents the "proximity effect" (excessive bass buildup) and reduces plosive pops on P and B sounds.

  2. Angle it off-axis - Don't point the microphone directly at your mouth. Tilt it 45 degrees to the side or slightly below. This lets air blasts from plosives pass by the capsule rather than hitting it head-on, cleaning up your recording significantly.

https://preview.redd.it/5fatca4jvwih1.jpg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=24a78c24c7a02bbb0b2dfefb744412a7d668542a

  1. Use direct monitoring - Most FIFINE USB microphones have a headphone jack for zero-latency monitoring. Plug in your headphones, turn on monitoring, and practice speaking while hearing the "air conduction" version in real time. This is the fastest way to train your brain to recognize and control your recorded voice.

https://preview.redd.it/44rrx6shwwih1.jpg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba27e49a65c5b8833e9160c94c939329e4008044

  1. Add "brightness" with your mouth shape - Since recordings lack the bone‑conducted low end, compensate by lifting your cheekbones (as if smiling slightly) and opening the back of your throat (like a half‑yawn). Place your consonants - especially the initial sounds - right on your upper front teeth. This focuses your voice into higher, clearer frequencies, making your recording sound crisp and present without needing to push or strain your throat.

https://preview.redd.it/1haznrffwwih1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fc973ac9062441b3db08ce0f414fcfa466c77e3d

Exposure. Listen to your recordings regularly. Your recorded voice isn't broken - it's just different. And with the right techniques and a little practice, you'll learn to trust what the microphone hears every bit as much as what you hear in your head.

Can You Use SM7B on SC3? OBS Sound Settings for SC3 + SM7B

https://preview.redd.it/1swl4jg54jhh1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ceff488d749d2838e31f8dbb3766467922ba9e1

SM7B is one of the most popular dynamic microphones for streaming and content creation - but it also has a reputation for being demanding when it comes to gain.

If you've paired an SM7B with the SC3, you've probably asked the same questions: Is the gain high enough? Why does my voice still sound quiet? Which OBS filters actually make a difference?

Getting the SM7B to sound right doesn't require complicated tuning. With the correct settings on the SC3 and a few adjustments in OBS, you can achieve clean, balanced voice audio that's ready for streaming, gaming, or recording. Elmacmado's review walks through the setup step by step.

SC3 Settings for the SM7B

https://preview.redd.it/5o9f97yc4jhh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=6aeccc03f77a0fe14e71ed9dd2178d8ce4cfbf03

https://preview.redd.it/hf2eh8yc4jhh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=1128ac9ca1b1c67a1e64c6024b944bbfe198976a

On the SC3, set the microphone mode to Dynamic, and adjust the Mic Gain to around 60-80%. Generally dynamic mics don't need 48V phantom power, but enabling 48V phantom power will be helpful to provide the mic with more gain. While the SM7B benefits from plenty of gain, maxing it out can introduce unnecessary background noise, especially in game chat or untreated rooms. Monitoring your voice through the SC3's zero-latency headphone output also makes gain adjustment much easier.

Recommended OBS Configuration

In OBS, select Microphone (FIFINE) as your audio input. You can either add it as an Audio Input Capture source for specific scenes or assign it globally under Settings > Audio if you want it available across every scene.

For cleaner voice quality, apply filters in this order:

  • Gain: Add a moderate gain boost rather than a single aggressive adjustment.
  • Noise Suppression: RNNoise offers stronger suppression, while Speex provides a more natural sound with lower CPU usage.
  • Noise Gate: Keep the default open and close thresholds unless your environment requires further tuning.
  • Compressor: Helps maintain consistent vocal volume during both quiet and loud speech.
  • 3-Band EQ: Add a slight high-frequency boost for clarity, keep mids close to neutral, and adjust bass only if your voice needs more warmth.
  • Limiter: Set it last to prevent clipping and keep peaks under control.

https://preview.redd.it/3wr669qh4jhh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=df47ba15be1571cfb89be53f6b597176daa61e6d

Final Thoughts

FIFINE AmpliGame SC3 provides enough control to get the most out of the SM7B for streaming, gaming, and voice chat. While OBS cannot replace a dedicated hardware EQ or advanced DSP, these settings deliver a balanced, natural sound with minimal background noise, making the SC3 + SM7B combination a solid choice for creators.

Why My Microphone Sounds Like a Tin Can? (And How to Fix It)

https://preview.redd.it/nkrnyguoajgh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=9d89752b13fc6c8a84e7b8a2beb6212adbc49639

Sit down to record, hit play, but the sounds like it's coming from inside a Pringles can - thin, hollow, and metallic. Here's what's actually happening and how to fix it.

🥫❌The Root Causes

That "tin can" or "boxy" sound usually comes down to three things: room reflections, mic positioning, or software settings.

Untreated rooms are the No.1 culprit. When you record in a space with bare walls and hard floors, your mic captures both your direct voice and the sound bouncing off those surfaces. These delayed reflections combine with your direct voice and create phase cancellations (called comb filtering), hollowing out your tone.

https://preview.redd.it/lsz1p81uajgh1.jpg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71a7c5869136e887f516412c128784be0503bd10

Bad mic technique is another common cause. Singing too close triggers proximity effect - an exaggerated low-end boost that makes directional mics sound muddy and boxy. Singing too far away picks up more room ambience. And if you're talking into the wrong side of a cardioid mic? That's a classic rookie mistake.

Software issues can also be the problem. Windows audio "enhancements," incorrect sample rates, or overly aggressive noise reduction can all introduce that metallic coloration.

⚙️⭕️The Fix

  1. Fix your environment. Hang blankets, towels, or moving pads behind and around your mic. Even recording in a closet full of clothes can make a dramatic difference.

  2. Fix your positioning. Keep the mic 6-8 inches from your mouth. Angle it 30-45 degrees off-axis - not pointed directly at your mouth. And make sure you're speaking into the front of the mic (the side with the brand logo on most cardioid mics).

  3. Check your settings. In Windows: Settings > System > Sound > More sound settings. Find your mic, go to Properties > Advanced, and set the Default Format to 16-bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality). Then, on the Enhancements tab, disable all audio "enhancements".

https://preview.redd.it/o7ve4wkxajgh1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=443e238026158351770372d4611ce77974d6b4bc

  1. Try a quick EQ fix. In your recording software, apply a high-pass filter around 80-100 Hz to cut low-end rumble. A subtle 2-4 dB boost around 3-8 kHz can add clarity.

The tin-can effect and the underwater effect are often confused as the same problem, but their solutions differ in subtle yet important ways. An underwater voice is muffled - high frequencies are cut, low-mids are muddy, and sibilance disappears. This usually points to sample-rate mismatches, heavy noise reduction, or a worn/damp microphone capsule. A tin-can voice is hollow and metallic - mids are over-emphasised, bass is thin - and typically comes from room reflections, comb filtering, or the mic being too far from your mouth. To fix underwater sound, check your sample rates and dial back noise reduction; for tin-can, treat your space, move closer, and angle the mic correctly.

https://preview.redd.it/ow9ry1xzajgh1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a236ded2c5ad9b8af543e839da2ce876e64246b

Great audio is 80% environment and technique, 20% gear. Before you buy a new microphone, try these fixes - you might be surprised how good your current mic can sound.

How to Fix Microphone That Sounds Underwater

https://preview.redd.it/6zhyxijyecfh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=3297fbdc872020eadcc7ed35ee0f2d024bb286ee

Nothing kills a recording faster than hearing your voice sound muffled, distant, or like you're speaking from the bottom of a pool. This "underwater" effect is frustrating - but it's also one of the most fixable audio issues out there.

Tame Overzealous Noise Reduction

Aggressive noise reduction removes background hiss, it also strips away the high frequencies that give your voice clarity, leaving behind that hollow, underwater sound.

  • Windows: Right-click the speaker icon → Sound settings → Input → select your microphone → Device properties → turn off Audio enhancements and Noise suppression.
  • macOS: System Settings → Sound → Input → lower or disable any ambient noise reduction.
  • Apps (Zoom, Discord, Teams, OBS): Open audio settings and set noise suppression to Low or Off. Test after each change.

https://preview.redd.it/y0gx2p54fcfh1.png?width=426&format=png&auto=webp&s=263e55fa536bdaa9c9ffdb7f806c6e0c48445ae4

Sample Rate Mismatch

One of the most common causes of underwater audio is a sample rate mismatch between your mic's hardware and recording software / operating system.

  • On Windows: Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar → Sound settings → More sound settings → Recording tab → select your microphone → Properties → Advanced tab → Default Format, select your mic's sample rate - 16-bit, 48000 Hz or 24-bit, 48000 Hz(match this in your recording software's audio settings).
  • On macOS: Applications → Utilities → Audio MIDI Setup → select your input device → format.

https://preview.redd.it/po9zk1c6fcfh1.jpg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a5e3db7aaee8c545bc481f373e0b9b6b7d1c53b

Physical Setup

  • Getting too close (under 2 inches) triggers the proximity effect - an artificial bass boost that muddies your audio. Position the mic 3-5 inches from your mouth and slightly off-axis to reduce plosives.
  • Check your cable and connections. A faulty or loose cable can degrade the audio signal, causing distortion or that underwater effect. Try a different cable or USB port to rule out hardware issues.
  • Dust, debris, or moisture blocking the microphone ports can physically muffle your sound. Gently wipe the surface with a soft cloth and use compressed air or a cotton swab to clear the grille. If you use a windscreen or pop filter, clean or replace it regularly.

https://preview.redd.it/gbuqrir7fcfh1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52b2643151349a6808949d79d55325cfdbb9ea66

Verify System and Driver Settings

Incorrect modes or outdated drivers often cause the problem.

  • Set the microphone as the default recording device (not communications-only).
  • Update or reinstall the audio driver via Device Manager, then restart.

Test Hardware and Connections

  • Try a different cable, USB port, or computer.
  • Record with the system's built-in voice recorder. If the issue disappears, the problem is software-related.

https://preview.redd.it/lkoatj89fcfh1.png?width=1500&format=png&auto=webp&s=211ced3fe6ee2acdde5bf9ac449fa7956e187972

Most "underwater" recordings are fixed by simply turning off noise suppression and clearing physical blockages. Start with those two steps - you'll usually hear a clear difference within minutes.

3x Price: Is It Worth Upgrading from FIFINE K669D to FIFINE Tank1?

https://preview.redd.it/4gknc7023weh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=16b597f98ef610a638028d4dcaaafca3c8d8d43c

While both the FIFINE K669D ($37) and Tank1 ($130) are XLR dynamic microphones, their price disparity reflects distinct engineering priorities and feature sets. This comparison breaks down the practical differences to help you determine which model best aligns with your specific recording environment and workflow.

1. Sound Character (Flat Mode)

Tank1 delivers a fuller, more controlled broadcast-style tone, with tighter proximity effect and better plosive rejection.

https://preview.redd.it/89u7dja43weh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=c67962077f82de61ab80cab4741df5258aa45b3a

K669D sounds cleaner out of the box but thinner and less refined; it handles plosives adequately but without the Tank1's dampening.

https://preview.redd.it/gt1qbye63weh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=35838c6a412d74aceec2adc80a496da6971cb285

2. Built-in Tone Shaping

Tank1 has a high-pass filter (cuts low rumble) and a mid-boost switch (adds presence). These let you adjust the sound without post-processing.

https://preview.redd.it/i4s23qz73weh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=a745e2b1d5816d7e989a9347e697cec1557dfd6f

K669D has no switches - you get one fixed voicing.

3. Gain Requirements

Tank1 needs substantial clean gain - about 55dB-65dB gain on an interface. Low-gain preamps may struggle.

K669D is much easier to drive, working well with virtually any basic XLR interface.

4. Build Quality & Durability

Tank1 has a rugged, broadcast-grade metal chassis, features a more robust, precision-built chassis with tighter tolerances.

https://preview.redd.it/igjzy4ba3weh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=8e0e884596067d307fefba521923e8738075882d

K669D is lighter, with a simpler and more compact metal construction.

5. Off-Axis & Room Noise Rejection

Tank1 excels at rejecting keyboard clicks, room ambience, and off-axis chatter - ideal for untreated spaces.

K669D rejects background noise decently but picks up noticeably more room tone in side-by-side tests.

- Decide Which Fits You

Choose the Tank1 if you podcast, stream, or do voice-over in a less-than-ideal room; you own a competent interface (or are willing to add a booster); and you value switchable EQ, rugged build, and professional rejection.

Choose the K669D if your budget is tight, your interface has modest gain, your recording space is already quiet, and you only need basic, reliable vocal capture without extra controls.

https://preview.redd.it/i1b6hquc3weh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=8caf5e41de7d6efe1428e6c977b3ac5cdef6c9f1

For serious spoken-word content, the Tank1 earns a 9.5/10 - and the upgrade is a clear yes. Check out AudioHotline's full review and his thoughts on the performance of Tank1.

Preserve Raw Screams/Shouts: Best Settings for Gaming Reaction Streams

https://preview.redd.it/sivjbt5hjrdh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=49cf04f6bbd6b4a499ee5ea132007df76df5c18f

Gamers know the thrill: that raw, high-pitched scream during a clutch win or jump-scare moment. But many microphones and settings squash these energetic peaks, leaving flat, muffled audio. Here's how to preserve authentic loud vocals for better livestreams and recordings.

✅Choose the Right Microphone

Start with hardware that handles high sound pressure levels (SPL). Dynamic microphones like the FIFINE K688(max SPL at 130dB) or FIFINE Tank3(max SPL at 120dB) excel here. They're rugged, resist distortion on loud shouts, and naturally reject background noise - ideal for untreated gaming setups. Position the mic 10-15 cm from your mouth, slightly off-axis to reduce plosives.

https://preview.redd.it/kbo5szydkrdh1.jpg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01579cc7f56bd8e9a1fa0e5974a019f3a868d06a

Condenser mics like Profile3 and A8Plus work if your room is quiet, offering clearer highs, but they need careful gain staging to avoid clipping on screams.

✅Optimize Software and Audio Settings

A clean, quieter take beats a distorted loud one every time. Aggressive processing is the biggest culprit. Try these on your mics, in OBS, Streamlabs, or your DAW:

  • Set the gain correctly. This is the most overlooked step. Adjust input gain so normal speech peaks at -18 to -12 dB, while speaking at your loudest expected volume, aiming for peak levels around -12dB to -6dB on your meter. This gives you headroom(never hit red/0 dB): space for screams to breathe without hitting the ceiling.
  • Disable noise suppression (Krisp, RNNoise at high levels), automatic gain control (AGC), and echo cancellation - these often treat screams as noise.
  • Use a light compressor (4:1 ratio, -18 dB threshold, fast attack) and a safety limiter (-3 dB threshold) to control peaks without killing dynamics.
  • Match sample rates to the mic's hardware(e.g. AM8ProT - 24 bit/48 kHz, AM8 - 16-bit/44.1k-48k Hz) across devices for clean capture.

https://preview.redd.it/zcpgfgagkrdh1.jpg?width=850&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00c925ec3c5a27d0030496166aa601fdea14c028

✅Additional Tips

Use a good audio interface with strong preamps for stable signal.

Add a pop filter and treat your room lightly to reduce reflections without deadening energy.

For Discord or platform chats, turn off auto-sensitivity and noise features.

Record in 24-bit or 32-bit float when possible for extra dynamic range.

https://preview.redd.it/kz3asxzhkrdh1.jpg?width=850&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc22f6e4b4a424c5a6bf606fc6b7054b0c4c3155

By focusing on minimal processing and SPL-friendly gear, your screams stay powerful and natural. This not only boosts viewer engagement but keeps your content energetic and real. Experiment in short test streams, adjust based on your voice and setup, and you'll nail that authentic hype every time.

FIFINE BM88 vs. BM88 Pro - Solid and Upgrade

https://preview.redd.it/etrum7s8ecdh1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16073fbc5e2fa9e1e3cd0ebf1f937ae559bb2831

Low profile mic arms sit below eye level, keep your screen and face fully visible, and eliminate the distracting springs that transmit noise. For streamers, podcasters, and YouTubers, a clean sightline means more engaging eye contact and a professional backdrop - whether you're reacting to chat or recording a talking-head segment.

Mic arms FIFINE BM88 and BM88 Pro both offer low-profile, all-metal builds with hidden routing, but they're not identical. Check out SquidHeadJoe's review and find several key differences emerge that may influence your decision.

Build & Capacity

Both arms feel exceptionally solid for their price points. The BM88 already supports heavy dynamic microphones, but the Pro increases maximum payload to roughly 2 kg (4.4 lb), making it ideal for heavier models like the FIFINE Tank 6 or Tank 1. The Pro also offers a slightly longer reach (70-80 cm), granting extra flexibility for larger desks or multi-monitor setups.

https://preview.redd.it/4fcxvfucecdh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=75c688a04de48d97ac8bbef299bda73df065d7b5

RGB & Aesthetics

The most visible upgrade is RGB lighting. The BM88 keeps a clean, minimalist look; the Pro adds built-in RGB with multiple modes, touch controls, and software customization via FIFINE Genie. For on-camera creators, this subtle accent can enhance your visual setup without being intrusive.

Colour Options & Maintenance

Both are available in black and white (pink is offered for the BM88, and likely coming to the Pro). The white finish resists yellowing over time and cleans easily with a mild wipe; the Pro's coating feels marginally more refined, requiring slightly less effort to maintain.

Desk Clamp & Usability

The Pro's clamping mechanism has been redesigned for smoother tightening - a welcome improvement when mounting behind a desk against a wall. Both include rubber padding and adapters (3/8', 5/8', 1/4') for universal microphone compatibility.

https://preview.redd.it/gmo3kdlhecdh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=d4dd3ddac04f4f859e0e6c52661cdccf095e75b9

The BM88 Pro typically costs $10-$15 more. For that premium, you gain RGB, enhanced reach, higher weight capacity, and a more polished user experience. If you value simplicity and proven reliability, the BM88 remains an outstanding value. If your setup is frequently on camera, you favour RGB, or you plan to use heavier microphones, the Pro is a worthwhile investment. Choose based on your current needs - and future-proofing.

Is Acoustic Treatment Necessory for Gamers, Streamers Setup & Home Studios?

https://preview.redd.it/lsfykmmpidch1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=943051da432e9dd802b65bde2c1ea7753fc49f80

What Is Acoustic Treatment?

Acoustic treatment is the process of controlling sound reflections inside your room - not only blocking noise from outside (that's soundproofing). When you speak, your voice bounces off bare walls, hard floors, and glass, creating echoes and a hollow, "boxy" tone. Your microphone picks up both the direct sound and these delayed reflections, which muddy your audio and make it sound unprofessional.

Why It Matters?

Unchecked reflections cause comb filtering - frequency cancellations that thin out your voice - and exaggerate the proximity effect, adding boomy muddiness. Even an expensive condenser mic can't fix a bad room; it will only capture those imperfections more clearly.

https://preview.redd.it/ydj65sjsidch1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14ceb01fd94921f3b26d95f03e27146ba8f7a4cb

Low-Cost Solutions

You don't have to renovate your room. Start with these effective, budget-friendly steps:

  • Absorb first reflections - Hang thick blankets, moving pads, or acoustic foam on the wall directly in front of you (where your mic faces). Place a rug on hard floors and add heavy curtains to windows.
  • Use furniture wisely - Record near a bookshelf or a wardrobe full of clothes; the irregular surfaces and soft materials naturally diffuse and absorb sound.
  • The "blanket fort" trick - Drape a heavy comforter over a mic stand or chair to create a temporary isolation booth around your microphone - it works surprisingly well.

https://preview.redd.it/u9hg4xduidch1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=676818a5d3b44b06fc05e65d2da025b7924f5f9f

Equipment Choices That Complement Treatment

While microphone selection and mounting aren't part of acoustic treatment, they are powerful workarounds when your room isn't perfect:

  • Go dynamic - Dynamic microphones (e.g., FIFINE Tank6, Tank1, K688) are less sensitive to room reflections than condensers, making them ideal for untreated spaces.
  • Isolate vibrations - Use a boom arm (e.g. FIFINE BM66, BM88, BM88Pro) and shock mount to decouple the mic from your desk, eliminating keyboard clicks and rumble from solid-surface transmission.
  • Add a pop filter - It stops plosives (P, T sounds) and reduces breath noise.

https://preview.redd.it/mibnon7widch1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa93addfedaf9ccc77efa704ed37633cfaf07ba2

Priority Checklist for Best Results

  • Zero cost - Move your desk so your mic's rear faces the largest open area (cardioid patterns reject rear sound).
  • Buy a boom arm and a pop filter; place a rug or blanket.
  • Add a portable isolation shield behind the mic, or upgrade to a dynamic mic.

https://preview.redd.it/yxk9k9vxidch1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=193b2f08b77ebe594cb182828f5a67a6e5bad8cd

Acoustic treatment isn't about perfection - it's about reducing reflections enough that your raw audio sounds clean. Pair physical absorption with smart mic placement and mounting, and you'll achieve broadcast-quality voice without breaking the bank. Start with one step today, and your listeners will notice the difference immediately.

Set Up Two Streams in the Same Space - No Cross-Talk

https://preview.redd.it/r1vb047cxybh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=4183b8ecf0a9e9c107247dc9659feafb33ffb591

In some cases you may need to share a room for a live stream or an online meeting with your roommate or partner, while microphone cross-talk is a common headache. With the right hardware, placement, and software, however, you can dramatically reduce unwanted pickup. Check out these straightforward, professional approaches.

1. Choose the Right Microphone

Use a cardioid dynamic (such as FIFINE K688, Tank 6 etc.) or supercardioid microphone. These pick up sound mainly from the front and reject sound from the sides and rear - the rear being the "dead zone.” Avoid omnidirectional mics, which capture sound equally from all directions. For best results, place the microphone's rear side facing your colleague, so their voice falls into that rejection zone.

https://preview.redd.it/d0xfz4texybh1.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1940bd732b6d9c4951a2a0046477ae63c4b9dd62

2. Optimize Positioning

Sit back-to-back - this naturally points each mic's dead zone toward the other person. For example, you need to keep FIFINE Tank1's top very close to your mouth (8-12 cm / 3-5 inches). This raises your voice's signal level, allowing you to lower the mic gain, which in turn reduces ambient noise (including your partner's voice). Always use closed-back headphones - never speakers - to prevent your audio from leaking out and being picked up by the other mic.

https://preview.redd.it/xk9mkb9ixybh1.jpg?width=850&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=419cdc79e277d435354451da0710d32236eb6caa

3. Tweak Your Environment

Place a physical barrier between you - a tall screen, a bookshelf, or even a thick curtain - to block direct sound travel. Add soft materials like rugs, blankets, or cushions to walls and desks; they absorb reflections and reduce room echo. Also, turn off fans, air conditioners, and other constant noise sources before you start.

4. Leverage Software Noise Cancellation

Built-in noise suppression in apps (Zoom, Teams, OBS) helps, but for serious results, use AI-powered tools like NVIDIA Broadcast (if you have an RTX GPU) or Krisp. These can intelligently erase your colleague's voice from your feed while keeping yours clear.

https://preview.redd.it/c3hxhoukxybh1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4afb170f20be2e191220f2154a2f1fdaddaf274

5. Adopt Smart Habits

Mute when you're not speaking - use a push-to-talk button or a dedicated mute key. This is the simplest and most foolproof method.

Final Checklist

  • Cardioid dynamic mic + closed-back headphones
  • Back-to-back, mic close to mouth, rear toward partner
  • Screen or barrier between you, soft furnishings around
  • Enable AI noise reduction software
  • Stay disciplined with mute

https://preview.redd.it/x7n18qomxybh1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7609cf3c80092a2d8a405e080293ff52eb35ed70

By following this checklist, you'll reduce interference to the point where your partner's voice becomes barely noticeable, if at all. And if you hit a snag, tweak one variable at a time (gain, distance, or angle) until it clicks. Clear, professional audio in a shared space? Absolutely achievable - and you've now got the roadmap.

Don't Want Keyboard Noise Ruining Your Stream or Game Chat? Try These!

https://preview.redd.it/a71sukdc8zah1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=38630d0521a43db5a17eb80b4031fa048c973709

Nothing breaks immersion faster than a loud, clacky keyboard drowning out your voice. Whether you're live streaming or in a heated game chat, unwanted keystrokes can frustrate your audience and teammates. Follow this practical, step-by-step approach that combines hardware, placement, software, and environment tweaks.

⭐️Choose the Right Microphone

Go dynamic, not condenser. Dynamic microphones are less sensitive and naturally reject background noise, making them ideal for noisy rooms. Condenser mics pick up every detail - including your keyboard - so save them for treated studios.

Look for cardioid or supercardioid patterns. These pick up sound mainly from the front and reject noise from the sides and rear. Point the mic's "dead zone” (usually the back) toward your keyboard for an instant noise reduction.

https://preview.redd.it/b5rb6def8zah1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b65027ecce11f70fb80743381d1ef2a2fe3d855e

⭐️Master Mic Placement

  • Keep it close - 5 to 10 cm from your mouth. This lets you lower the gain, so the mic hears less of everything else.
  • Move it away from the keyboard - at least 15-30 cm.
  • Use a boom arm to lift the mic off your desk. This eliminates vibrations from typing that travel through the table.
  • Add a shock mount to absorb any remaining handling or tapping noise.

https://preview.redd.it/7qqav3ui8zah1.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9f1450f4001a2499ed8d8c1f133404749b4a673

⭐️Software Filtering

  • In OBS Studio or any broadcasting app, add these two filters in order:
  • Noise Suppression - Use RNNoise or NVIDIA Broadcast (if you have an RTX GPU). These AI-based tools continuously cancel fan hum and keyboard clicks without muffling your voice.
  • Noise Gate - Set a threshold (e.g., close at -50 dB, open at -25 dB). When you stop speaking, the gate mutes the mic, so only your voice re-opens it. Tweak the values while you are speaking into the mic to avoid cutting off soft speech.

⭐️Environmental Adjustments

  • Place a thick desk mat or mousepad under your keyboard to absorb impact noise.
  • Position your mic arm away from computer fans and AC vents.

https://preview.redd.it/g55m8xok8zah1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eca25e766209b1070d55ba992596a0eb43949e25

Start with proper placement - it costs nothing and yields the biggest gain. Then add a dynamic mic and software filters for a near-professional result. With these steps, your voice stays crystal clear, and your keyboard becomes invisible to the mic.

What Can a FIFINE AmpliGame D6 Do for Filmmakers?

https://preview.redd.it/amqk0dnuckah1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2914f3131e49954a0eb36c5d507bdfcf2a6309f0

USB stream controller FIFINE AmpliGame D6 is designed for streamers, but filmmakers who spend hours in post-production may find it surprisingly useful. Its 15 customizable keys, each capable of triggering single shortcuts or multi‑step macros, can slot into an editing workflow. Check out filmmaker Liam Hastey's review and find what it actually delivers when you put it to work on real projects.

✂️Accelerate repetitive editing actions

Editing isn't just creative decisions - it's hundreds of cuts, ripple deletes, undo/redo, playback toggles, and timeline navigation. Map these frequent commands to dedicated buttons. Instead of reaching for awkward keyboard combos, your hand stays in one place and muscle memory takes over. When you repeat it hundreds of times in a session, it adds up to noticeably smoother editing.

https://preview.redd.it/aqepqs8xckah1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=2b6d002f4324a4c3ff7593b4fa4933f45769d14a

📂Eliminate friction in file and project navigation

Filmmakers constantly jump between folders, music libraries, raw footage bins, and project files. Assign one button to open your current project folder, another to launch your music library, a third to open your Final Cut, Premiere, etc. These single-press shortcuts remove those small pauses where you stop and think "where did I put that?” - keeping your creative flow intact.

https://preview.redd.it/0nv2oco0dkah1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=875c7f3cf15f26cdc541140266696880f4a86349

📽️Run multi-step macros with one tap

The D6 can chain multiple actions into a single press. For instance, set a button to export your timeline, rename the file with a date stamp, and move it to a delivery folder - all at once. Or create a macro that switches between projects while muting system audio. Tasks that normally take several clicks become one-button operations, freeing you from tedious sequences.

🎞️Simplify export and project switching

Dedicate keys for common exports (e.g., 1080p, 4K, social-media presets) or for quickly swapping between active projects. Preview music tracks, toggle full-screen playback, or open frequently used effect panels - all without leaving your timeline.

https://preview.redd.it/va92voh2dkah1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=86e451c3151b9e639d65f45ae086f0d2da6729a7

Setup requires upfront effort. If you don't tailor the buttons to your personal habits, the D6 will just gather dust. But for editors who work consistently, it turns the boring, repetitive parts of post‑production into friction-free taps. Maybe FIFINE AmpliGame D6 stream controller won't reinvent your editing, but it will make the mundane noticeably faster - and that's precisely why it earns a spot on the desk.

Should You Upgrade to SC8 or Stay with SC3?

https://preview.redd.it/j9l7wz0pke9h1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7527bc53361e1597838ba58fc710da009d32a6d

When gaming audio mixer FIFINE AmpliGame SC3 is first introduced, it became a popular budget mixer for streamers and gamers. Now the SC8 arrives as a larger, feature-rich successor - but is the $20 premium worth it? Find out from DarkenedCyrus' review.

https://preview.redd.it/edcvvfpske9h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b25dfebb3f790dc3f112713a8011f23a202be69

The SC8's Key Advantages

The most critical improvement is gain headroom. With the SC3, users often max out the mic volume dial and still struggle for level. The SC8 delivers significantly more clean gain, letting you set the knob around 60% for a healthy signal - no more shouting into the mic.

https://preview.redd.it/ycghi9euke9h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=0ac8a7ebe6a1225f7e7de7db20b6257620fec659

Beyond that, the SC8 adds:

  • Optical input for console connectivity.
  • Dedicated game/chat balance knob, working on both PC and PlayStation.
  • Physical mute buttons for mic, headphone, and aux inputs.
  • 7.1 surround sound for your headset (EQ applies to monitoring, not mic signal).
  • Upgraded voice changer effects and soundboard recording
  • SC8 is also compatible with FIFINE Genie control software which gives better customization

Where the SC3 Still Shines

The SC3 is smaller, simpler, and costs $50. If you already own it and your gain levels are acceptable, the SC8's extra features may not justify an upgrade. For a first-time buyer, however, the SC3 is a perfectly capable entry point - especially when paired with a budget XLR mic, and if you need a simple dual-PC setup.

https://preview.redd.it/tyel0qnwke9h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=b00f4e4e28a2a2f405624840ced484903ad33a11

So if you already own the SC3 and gain isn't an issue, stick with it. If you're choosing between the two, the SC8's extra headroom alone makes streaming and recording far less frustrating, justifying the $20 upgrade.

The Verdict

Upgrading to SC8 is **worth it**. The superior headroom alone makes streaming and recording far less frustrating. If your budget stretches to $70, choose the SC8. If you're on a strict $50 limit, the SC3 remains a solid choice.

Ultimately, both mixers deliver clean audio with your XLR mics. The SC8 simply gives you more control, more connectivity, and room to grow.

Is the K688 Good for Voice-over and Music Production? A Quick Look at Whether It Fits Your Usage

https://preview.redd.it/nq53mptnl08h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=c548951a442a745f8e5e66a431318ba9d8904e22

A warm, mid-forward dynamic mic flatters speech - ideal for podcasts and streaming. A bright condenser adds sparkle to vocals, while a flat response serves music production. The FIFINE K688 is a dynamic dual-USB/XLR mic with a broadcast-style voicing. Does it fit your workflow? Let's see.

Understanding the Sound Signature

XLR&USB pro-recording mic FIFINE K688 delivers a bright-sounding tone with a warm, rich, and full-bodied vocal character. Its frequency response is tailored for the human voice - the 70Hz-15kHz range captures the warmth of lower frequencies while maintaining clarity in the critical midrange. The cardioid polar pattern ensures focused pickup from the front while effectively rejecting ambient noise from the sides and rear. XLR mode offers a cleaner signal with potentially better overall audio quality.

https://preview.redd.it/njw3pjwzk08h1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b3aa3dea2b759c4a85dcea5b11c096b5ca04e648

Who Is This Mic For?

Podcasters & Voiceover Artists

Ideal match. The K688's warm, mid-focused sound is purpose-built for spoken-word content. Its dynamic capsule helps tame room echo and background noise - keyboard clicks and mouse sounds are barely audible unless you're speaking directly into it. The built-in shock mount and high-density windscreen effectively reduce plosives and handling noise. For creators recording in untreated spaces, this is a major advantage.

https://preview.redd.it/tnmw2xqdl08h1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=261d375754ed5d479d3da2a17c8f98834c21adb2

Game Streamers & Live Broadcasters

Well suited. The USB mode delivers a strong, clear signal without requiring an external interface  - perfect for plug-and-play convenience. The touch-sensitive mute button with LED indicator (green for active, red for muted) lets you cut audio silently during live streams. The zero-latency headphone monitoring via the 3.5mm jack allows real-time audio checking, which is invaluable for live content creation.

Vocal & Music Recording

Workable for demos and basic tracking. The K688 captures vocals with good clarity and a natural, reflective sound. The 130dB max SPL means it can handle loud inputs without distortion, making it suitable for louder vocal passages or even recording amplified instruments like guitar amps.

https://preview.redd.it/0tuvaxqdl08h1.jpg?width=471&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eea793caf587b4e0f969dccf81e8f8219c29dd95

Music Production

Not the primary choice. Music producers seeking a flat, uncolored frequency response for mixing reference may find the K688's warm voicing adds too much character. This is a microphone designed to flatter the voice, not to provide a clinically neutral capture.

https://preview.redd.it/bgrumwqdl08h1.jpg?width=850&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b3447cd1485f717708032c359ce159bb6f2adac

FIFINE K688 is an excellent match for podcasters, voiceover artists, and streamers who need warm, clear speech capture in untreated spaces. It's workable for demo vocals but might not be perfect for critical music production or neutral monitoring - where a flat condenser is preferred. Know your needs, check out Jeremy Widhalm's review, and you'll know if this mic is your go-to.

What is AM8PROT's 3-in-1 knob for? How to use it to improve your game and stream?

https://preview.redd.it/vti5t0nenm6h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=bdc8b10fa0ac40971d5b6416df4691868f51c3c1

FIFINE AmpliGame AM8PROT RGB mic kit features an intuitive 3-in-1 control knob - a single dial that adjusts three critical audio settings without needing to open software. It's a real-time tool that gives gamers and streamers direct, physical control over their sound.

The three modes (short-press to cycle)

https://preview.redd.it/j9ywwpqfnm6h1.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e284c29a2d4e24356d36f5d454855de02eeb19de

  • Mic Gain - Controls how loud your voice sounds to teammates and viewers.
  • Headphone Volume - Adjusts only what you hear in your monitor headphones.
  • ChatMix - Blends your own voice vs. PC sound in your headphones without affecting your stream or recording.

How the knob works - at a glance

https://preview.redd.it/8u1r65sgnm6h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=91b5be717902e838b0271f45d4438da0c9bf8442

Short-press the center button to cycle through the three modes. A white LED light under the mic/headphone/Chatmix icons indicates which mode is active, and a bright LED bar shows the current level as you turn the dial. The bright LED bar also works as a tap-to-mute button - touch it once to mute, and the entire front LED strip turns red, so you never accidentally broadcast.

Real-world use for gaming & streaming

https://preview.redd.it/u75gwe1knm6h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=dd8052ff7b33978ae625f4e4ec530d01cf9c49da

During competitive gaming - Set the Mix slightly toward PC sound to hear footsteps clearly. Adjust Mic Gain on the fly if you speak softer or louder. Need to cough or take a quick drink? Tap the top to mute - the red light gives instant visual confirmation.

While live streaming - Turn the Mix toward your own voice when talking to chat or singing, then dial it back to game audio during action sequences. Use Headphone Volume to raise or lower your monitor level without touching Windows settings. Everything is tactile, instant, and independent from what your audience hears.

The Best OBS Filters for Optimizing Your FIFINE K669B Microphone

https://preview.redd.it/pmw8rsmhsf5h1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=465d7ac21a2a8046ce199eab349a7d09807baea4

FIFINE K669B is an excellent budget condenser microphone, delivering clear audio for streaming, recording, and conferencing. As a condenser mic, it is sensitive and can pick up unwanted background noise—especially in less-than-ideal acoustic environments. Fortunately, with proper configuration in OBS Studio, you can achieve broadcast-quality sound.

Recommended Setup Steps

1. Physical Gain Adjustment

Set the microphone’s volume gain to at least 25% or slightly higher. This reduces sensitivity to ambient noise (e.g., fans, keyboard clicks) while keeping your voice clear.

https://preview.redd.it/yr2dfyp5sf5h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=c98fa20ca6b0e2aec6a01b2e8fd9a9121d41fc33

2. OBS Audio Source Settings

Go to Settings > Audio and ensure your K669B is selected as the microphone device. Under Desktop Audio, lower the slider to around -20 dB. This prevents game or system audio from overpowering your voice.

3. Apply Audio Filters

In the audio mixer, click the gear icon next to your mic and select Filters. Add the following:

Noise Suppression: Start at -10 dB and adjust downward until background noise is eliminated without muffling your voice.

https://preview.redd.it/uvyhjz18sf5h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=432d884535b2c3e1c5b12d5ce97df59cb42e5aae

Noise Gate: Set a closed threshold that cuts off the mic when volume drops below that level (e.g., to silence keyboard taps). Adjust open threshold to reactivate the mic when you speak.

https://preview.redd.it/m79r5sy8sf5h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=7d7baf8cb3d73124891d8ba0a926b4be882e48b8

Compression: Prevents peaking and distortion during loud moments. Use moderate settings to keep your voice balanced.

https://preview.redd.it/qa8ebky9sf5h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=1701644bd7fd476b1b4f1f4ecdbe418f9500dcdc

Final Tips

Test your settings while speaking at normal and elevated volumes. Fine-tune each filter for your specific room noise. With this configuration, the K669B performs like a much pricier microphone. Check out Maxiemo's detailed tutorials to see his tuning approach.

Hiss or Hum? It's Probably Gear's Noise Floor (Troubleshooting Guide for USB & XLR Mics)

https://preview.redd.it/sxbldfmnz84h1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=6918e1cc39c7cdad8731bb75a0529d757592a78e

Whether you're recording a voiceover or streaming live, a clean, noise-free signal is essential. Background hiss or hum in your microphone setup is rarely caused by a single culprit - it accumulates across your signal chain. Here's how to tackle it at every stage, specifically for USB and XLR microphones.

USB Microphones

USB mics pack the capsule, preamp, and analog-to-digital converter into one body. You can't swap components, but you can control how they're used.

Mind your gain. Set your mic's input level conservatively - around 60-70% is often a sweet spot. Boosting gain too high amplifies internal circuit noise. Instead, move closer to the mic. Halving the distance can increase your voice level by up to 6 dB without raising the noise floor.

Avoid dirty USB power. Plug directly into a rear motherboard port on a desktop, or use a powered USB hub. Charging a laptop while recording can inject switching noise; running on battery often yields a quieter recording.

Disable software "enhancements." Turn off any mic boost or automatic gain control in your operating system or streaming software. These features often raise both signal and noise indiscriminately.

Post-production polish. A noise gate can mute the quiet sections between words, while a gentle de-noiser (such as iZotope RX Voice De-noise or Audacity's built-in effect) can suppress broadband hiss. Always capture a few seconds of room tone to use as a noise profile.

XLR Microphones

With an XLR mic, you control every link in the chain, which gives you more ways to keep noise down.

Pick the right preamp and gain staging. The microphone preamplifier is the most critical noise gatekeeper. Provide clean gain early - aim for your loudest peaks to hit around -12 dBFS in your recording software. Avoid cranking digital gain afterwards, which will only amplify accumulated noise.

Match your microphone and preamp. Low-sensitivity dynamic mics (like the FIFINE K688 or similar) demand significant gain and can expose a noisy interface preamp. An inline preamp or signal booster (e.g., FetHead or Cloudlifter) adds 20-25 dB of exceptionally clean gain before the interface, effectively bypassing the noisier upper range of a built-in preamp.

Use balanced connections. Always run XLR cables, keep them away from power cords and transformers, and break ground loops with a DI box or by running a laptop on battery if you hear hum.

Post-production clean-up. For hum, a narrow EQ notch at your mains frequency (50/60 Hz) and its harmonics can work wonders. For hiss, sample-based noise reduction is your friend. Strip-silence tools in your DAW can also automatically cut empty sections, giving your stream or recording a professional, polished feel.

The golden rule applies equally to USB and XLR setups: capture the cleanest, loudest signal possible right at the source. A well-gained, closely positioned microphone often needs only a feather-light touch in post, leaving you with a sound that's present, clear, and engaging.
