Should Wildlife Rehab return Opossum to me after she’s recovered to release back in my suburban neighborhood where she has lived for close to 2 years or in the country in a field with woods and a stream
The wild passion I’ve been feeding was injured, and I took her to Wildlife rehab for surgery. She’s close to being fully recovered, and I have the option of picking her up and releasing her back in my neighborhood or them releasing her in the country on land where there’s water and trees. The opossum is old - I would say she’s close to two years and has always lived in my suburb. She’s not been dependent on the food I’ve put out since it’s not been enough to entirely sustain her and some nights she didn’t show up. My concern with releasing her back in my area is obviously all the dangers of a busy suburb and a man 6 houses down has traps by his very secure backyard chicken coop and I’m not sure what he does with the poor creatures he traps. Of course there are dangers in the country too and she’s never been there. It’s the unknown, I’m leaning towards bringing her back home. No place is safe. They have such a hard life wherever they go,
