Hoy les traigo otra de mis herramientas, que acabo de lanzar.

- Permítanme explicarles brevemente la nueva herramienta: Renombrador.

Renombra archivos y carpetas por lotes con vista previa y función de deshacer, ya sea desde la terminal o haciendo clic derecho en Nemo. Puro Bash, sin dependencias pesadas. Para más detalles sobre lo fácil que es renombrar cientos de fotos, archivos y más, consulta el repositorio.**

- También he actualizado Scriptya. He añadido una pequeña opción para cambiar los iconos de los scripts instalados, así que puedes ir cambiándolos hasta encontrar el que más te guste. Ahora incluso puedes cambiar el icono de Scriptya y usar el del repositorio.

Seguiré publicando más software de código abierto cada semana. Por ahora, seguimos en la era clásica, pero poco a poco avanzaremos hacia tecnologías más complejas. Todavía tengo mucho que compartir con vosotros.

Hoy les traigo otra de mis herramientas, que acabo de lanzar.

-Permítanme explicarles brevemente la nueva herramienta: Simple-Backup.

¿Saben lo tedioso que es gestionar copias de seguridad de archivos, decidir qué archivos conservar, reemplazarlos manualmente y hacerlo todo sin cometer errores? Ahora imaginen hacer eso en varios discos duros. Precisamente por eso creé este programa.

Con Simple-Backup, pueden hacer copias de seguridad de archivos, carpetas o lo que necesiten, manteniéndolos sincronizados con la carpeta o unidad de destino mediante la copia y actualización únicamente de los datos que hayan cambiado en la carpeta de origen.

También incluye un modo espejo, que permite eliminar archivos del destino si también se han eliminado del origen. Esto te ayuda a mantener la estructura de archivos original incluso después de eliminar los archivos que ya no necesitas. Por supuesto, esta es una opción configurable.

También puedes olvidarte de configurar manualmente las rutas y todo ese engorro, ya que puedes añadir tareas programadas (o eliminarlas directamente del script) para automatizar completamente el proceso.

Today I’m bringing you another one of my tools, which I’ve just released.

I’d also like to begin with a little reflection (if you’re not interested in this part, feel free to skip straight to the section where I talk about the tool).

-Why are open-source programmes so important, and what does it mean that there are people who build them?

To begin, open source embodies something fundamental: human beings need to collaborate with one another in order to accomplish extraordinary things that no single individual could achieve on their own. However, rather than this collaboration being primarily driven by an economic relationship, it is founded on the genuine expression of individuals who want to contribute their knowledge, education or skills so that others can benefit from them.

From my point of view, this is true altruism. There is something very special about individuals who are not motivated by financial incentives giving their time to others with the sole hope of doing something good for them; people who are complete strangers, yet whose right to access and benefit from the knowledge that humanity has accumulated over time is recognised nonetheless.

That something “good” offered by those who open up their knowledge to others without expecting anything in return can be software, an answer to a problem on a forum, an explanation of a subject, a book, a song, or simply helping a stranger on an online forum. All of these are genuine examples of what is good about humanity — the very things we should encourage and nurture.

By contrast, on social media we can see all the vanity, hatred, envy and egotism: the baser sides of humanity.

Now let’s think back to what Linux was like 25 years ago and compare it with what we have today. Thanks to hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of people whose desire, passion, knowledge and willingness to collaborate have led to the creation of so many different operating systems and software projects, so many solutions to complex technological problems, and so many advances coordinated by these genuinely altruistic human beings.

They have given rise to countless free, talented, astonishing and downright mind-blowing open-source solutions. We would run out of adjectives trying to describe the good that all these contributions from anonymous altruists have left us.

For these reasons, even though “open-source people” are a minority and are often anonymous, we should value everything they have done — and continue to do — for us: countless pieces of knowledge freely and altruistically expressed in countless different forms. We should also recognise that they preserve within themselves that good part of human nature which we should all strive to emulate.

These principles have served as a reference point for what I am doing today, and for doing what those open-source human beings taught me to do: share what you know.

As always, the tool is currently in Spanish, but if the community asks for it (through GitHub stars, comments or whatever) I’ll put it on the agenda for implementation. It is also true that it is so easy to use that, as long as you know how numbers work, even a Chinese person could use it. forgive the irony.

I have mainly used this tool on Linux Mint, but in principle it should work on other distributions as well, since it doesn’t rely on anything unusual and is primarily written in Bash.

I like to keep things tidy when I browse the internet, so I do what I call “Cleaning”. I do this after using my browser: I visit all sorts of places, it gets filled with cookies, cache, and a thousand different forms of privacy invasion. Well, with Browser-Cleaner, we can even clean the remnants left behind by browsers as privacy-focused as Tor.

It supports several browsers, and I had to put quite a bit of work into detecting them because there are several ways of installing each one, and each installation method can have a different path. On top of that, Firefox changed its paths this year, so I had to adjust everything to make sure I could bring the tool to the community working at 100%.

-In short: a fast, easy-to-use script with different cleaning modes, including automated modes for cleaning all your browsers. A true total browser cleaner.

The clever part is that it cleans while preserving everything that matters. It won’t mess up your configuration, delete your bookmarks or remove your extensions. It simply leaves your browser clean so that you can then happily make a mess of it again, because the cleaning takes about one second. It gives you that feeling of staying in a really good hotel: you leave in the morning having left the room in an absolute state, only to return at lunchtime and find everything tidied, clean and taken care of.

I’ll keep publishing more software. For the time being, we’re still in the classical era, but little by little we’ll move towards more complex ages. I still have a lot left to share with you.

- Color-Mint It is a tool designed specifically for the Cinnamon desktop environment on Linux Mint, with the goal of bringing all aesthetic and customization settings together in a single panel, making them easy to apply. You can create profiles, import themes, change fonts, and much more.

- Mint-Setup is a Bash + Zenity tool for Linux Mint (Cinnamon) that saves your desktop configuration—including panels, applets, themes, Nemo, installed packages, keyboard/mouse/touchpad settings, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and even application-specific configurations for apps such as Firefox, VS Code, and Docker—and restores everything after a fresh installation or on a new machine.

- For those who encrypt their drives, the advanced options also include the ability to back up or restore the LUKS header when needed. In an emergency, if the header becomes corrupted, having a backup can save you from a lot of unnecessary headaches.

Continuing the Linux Mint series, today I released another simple yet practical tool that makes it easier to manage what starts up on your machine: Autostart Manager.

From a simple menu, you can tick or untick a checkbox to enable or disable any program, task, or service that starts automatically on your system. Easy, right? This is exactly the kind of control the average Linux Mint user doesn't have access to through the default menus. For more experienced users, it's also a convenient way to keep track of everything that launches when your Linux system boots.

I wrote a Bash script with a graphical interface—using Zenity, nothing fancy—that brings together those five startup sources into a single table. At a glance, you can see what's enabled and what's disabled, and you only need to check or uncheck a box to change the status of any item, regardless of where it comes from. You can also filter entries by name and open the corresponding file to inspect or edit it.

My main concern was making sure that this convenience didn't come at the expense of system safety:

• Nothing in the system is deleted or overwritten. When disabling a system-wide autostart entry, the script creates an override file in the user's directory, exactly as defined by the XDG specification.
• If you're about to disable something that the system may depend on (such as NetworkManager, the PolicyKit agent, or the session manager), the script asks for an additional confirmation before making any changes.
• If you modify several system services at once, you're prompted for the administrator password only once instead of once per service.
• If you accidentally run the script as root, it warns you first—otherwise, you'd be managing root's autostart entries instead of your own.

The only requirement is Zenity, which is already installed by default in Linux Mint. Systemd and cron are optional: if either is unavailable, the script simply skips those sections without complaining.

In any case, I'm sharing the tool so you can use it however you like, as always. I still have quite a few more scripts in my Linux Mint toolbox, and I'll be releasing them regularly.

Many more projects will follow, and every one of them will be open source. As always, my goal is to create software that prioritizes accessibility, ease of use, and the ability to solve real problems.

Hoy traigo otra pequeña herramienta que me hice cuando empecé con Linux Mint.
MintApp Remover: porque desinstalar tiene que ser fácil en linux

No me gusta tener programas instalados que no utilizaré y quitarlos da pereza. Con esta herramienta solucioné la pereza de la repetición y lo sustituí por un bonito interfaz en terminal.
Inicialmente la pensé solo para programas que ya Linux Mint 22.3 traía, me costó identificar todos y cada uno, pero funcionaba. Después amplié el catálogo para que pudiese detectar más programas y de esa forma, una vez más, hacer más simple el proceso de desinstalación. Y por supuesto, una opción de rápida para terminar con una limpieza de dependencias.

Seguiré trayendo más herramientas y proyectos en los que trabajo. Espero que la comunidad pueda hacer algo bueno con ellos y que los usuarios menos avanzados encuentren en estas herramientas una solución práctica.
