Should I charge them extra?
Hi curious to know everyone’s thoughts. I’m feeling a bit frustrated with the dog parents. I met them 2 weeks ago at the meet and great and everything went fine. My first day dog sitting started yesterday morning . On Monday morning I get a text from the owners saying there’s a heatwave coming up like 90-95 degrees for the next 3 days and that they currently don’t have an ac but it’s livable at different times of the day with the one fan in their living room. They of course mention are getting a great deal on the ac from their neighbors that are moving out NEXT WEEK and mentioned if it gets uncomfortable for me that he can simply go to my place. Not asking if that’s ok but assuming it is and it’s my choice. I tell them I’m not allowed to have dogs in my apt but if I have to it’s ok. Which I’m annoyed that I said but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt-and see if it was actually going to be hot enough to do that.
Now these owners have a 100lb Bernese mountain dog. I get there and it’s about 78 degrees hot but coolish in the living room. By 6 pm I’m starting to lose it. They didn’t even have a fan in their bedroom. I told them to please order one and have it door dashed . The owner did no questions asked. Temperature rises to 81 in the apt. It’s now 9 pm and I see the dog is breathing quickly and flaring his nostrils to breathe. After multiple questions with chat gpt I decide I need to get this dog to my ac apartment. To be honest I didn’t want to have to do that. This is the first day he met me and now I have to add on additional stress and take him to my place.
I feel so sorry for him. Anyways he’s been here since last night and he’s shedded everywhere and drooled. That’s fine with me he’s a dog and a very sweet lovable one at that and I will clean up.
Tonight when I tell her we are staying at my place and mention when I went back to get his food it was 82 degrees and stuffy. We just had a thunderstorm and I didn’t want to leave the windows open without me being there. She responds to say oh yes-might be good to open a window or 2 to get the stuffiness out-Which pissed me off and now her partner mentioned thanking me and that they will have Ac’s next time.
Tbh I haven’t responded to his text and I’m not sure what to say. I don’t want to respond. I think for me it’s wrong to assume they will tip me well from this whole ordeal. I really love the dog but these owners were so inconsiderate and idk if I want to work with them going forward.
