My clematis is struggling this year. What should I do?
Just realized the resolution on some of those pictures are really bad, but I can't edit. So reuploaded better resolution pictures here.
I've been living in the house for 8 years. Not sure how old this clematis is, but the previous owners told me they just cut it down to the ground each year. I've done that every year and never had an issue. However, this year, it came back noticeably weaker (I think last year might have been weak too, just not this weak). I can see there are only a handful of health shoots coming from the base. In past years, there were healthy shoots coming from the base all over.
What should I do to save this?
