Cooperation Between Country and Suburban Rail Services During in the VR
Hi guys,
I was picking the brains of some V/Line people about the upcoming Geelong disruptions and why they don’t run services through or terminate at Werribee. I was told that there aren’t enough qualified drivers for that route. The other interesting point was that Metro and V/Line receive a fine for every delayed service. This bakes in a financial incentive for the two to not cooperate on shared tracks. Understandably, Metro doesn’t want the extra traffic causing any delays to their own services.
This got me wondering, what was cooperation like between country, freight and suburban services in the VR? What kind of interdepartmental rifts existed or was there even any major rifts at all?
