How dead are the slain characters?
On TV Tropes, there is a sorting algorithm to determine the likelihood of dead characters coming back from the dead.
The sorting algorithm of deadness ranges from 1 to 4. There are different metrics with an average score serving as an indication.
1 means that this character will most certainly be back before the episode is over
2 means that this character will most likely remain dead for a little bit but ultimately come back
2.5 is the middle point. A character could stay dead or come back after some time.
Anything above a 3 is unlikely to come back. It goes without saying that a solid 4 makes a character deader than dead.
More info about this sorting algorithm can be found here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SortingAlgorithmOfDeadness
So we all know that Master Daki died and that turned Devon to the dark side. How likely is he to come back from the dead?
- Cause of death: Master Daki advised against trusting Maul, only to trust Maul and get set up to die by Vader's hands. Ironic how he didn't follow his own advice. 4
- Audience expectation: This show (like much of Star Wars) is not afraid of killing off characters. 4
- Body found?: Death witnessed and confirmed on screen. 3
- Reaction: You better believe that Devon took it personally. She took it out on the two inquisitors and was even about to take it out on Vader. 2
- Last words: Not really last words but his life ends with a look of worry for his padawan, Devon. 4
- Characterization: regular character 2
- When did he die?: I don't think that this metric should count for Star Wars, considering how characters that have remained dead for awhile like Darth Maul and Emperor Palpatine have been brought back. N/A
- Died and come back?: nope 4
Average score: 3.29 Master Daki is one with the force.
Next up is Captain Brander Lawson
- Cause of death: Heroic sacrifice 3
- Audience expectation: 4
- Body found: Left for dead 1
- Reaction: He's dead Rylee 3
- Last words: "Rylee, I love you son" Not exactly sure where to put a dying declaration of love but any death with dignity seems to be a 3.
- Characterization: regular character 2
- Died and come back: no 4
Average score: 2.86 Captain Lawson is most likely going to stay dead but could come back near the end of season 2.
Now comes Rook Kast, second in command over Maul's criminal syndicate
- Cause of death: Got pulled in by Darth Vader. 2
- Audience expectation: 4
- Body found: Nope 2
- Reaction: She's dead Maul 3
- Last words: Definitely an "oh crap" moment. 4
- Characterization: regular character 2
- Died and come back: nope 4
Average score: A solid 3. Probably staying dead.
And just for extra, Spybot, this series' comic relief droid
- Cause of death: Got sliced in half and fell into the acid 2
- Audience expectation: 4
- Body found: Only bits and pieces 4
- Reaction: Maul gets angry 2
- Characterization: regular character 2
- died and come back: nope 4
Average score: 3 You know this series is taking a dark turn when the comic relief droid is not only getting killed off but likely remaining dead.
