I want a good beginning. It’s about a sweet old witch that grew a pumpkin companion to share in her adventures during the fall season. Any start that I come up with is kind of too basic in my opinion: “deep in the dark woods inside a secret cottage, there lived a sweet old witch….” Any ideas?
In my story: Jack was a smith in a village that is dying from a famine. A bunch of imps have plenty of food (likely stolen from their village). Jack tricks them by creating a lantern with a face like theirs and propping it on a scarecrow to make it look like a boss. Since the imps are very simple creatures, they fall for it. Jack grabs everything they could and tries to bring it back to the village. But the imps attack. Jack, in desperation, sets the forest on fire to kill them off, resulting in their death as well.
I know it’s a far cry from the original Stingy Jack myth… but I wanted to do my own thing. Tell me what you guys think.
