I built a free UK app for finding drinking water, toilets, parking, defibrillators and other useful public places

Hi everyone (I checked with the mods before posting).

I’m Callum, the Glasgow-based founder of Find Nearby, a free iPhone / Android app that helps people quickly find practical nearby places like toilets, parking, benches, playparks, drinking water, health locations and more.

Inspired by the hot weather, I’ve recently added public drinking water locations as an extra ad-free search. I’ve also made key accessibility, family and health searches free with no ads, including accessible toilets, accessible parking, baby-changing toilets, parent & child parking, hospitals, GPs and defibrillators.

I did this because I don’t think people should have to watch an advert to find things like water, accessible toilets, disabled parking, defibrillators or urgent health locations.

Some other features in the app are still ad-supported or part of Pro, because I’m trying to make the app sustainable, but I wanted these key public-benefit searches to stay free and ad-free.

It’s built in Glasgow and has fast coverage across the UK and Ireland, plus worldwide search support where public map data is available.

Website: https://findnearby.co.uk

Important caveat: Find Nearby uses public map data, so places can sometimes be incomplete, out of date, seasonal, unavailable or incorrectly mapped. Please check critical details where possible, and don’t rely on it as your only source of drinking water in hot weather.

I’d be really grateful for any feedback, especially from disabled people, carers, parents, travellers, drivers, dog walkers, or anyone who often needs to find practical public places quickly.

Thanks,

Callum

Glasgow-built app for finding drinking water, toilets, parking, benches and useful places nearby

Hi everyone (I checked with the mods before posting).

My name is Callum and I’m the Glasgow-based founder of Find Nearby, a free iPhone / Android app that helps people quickly find practical nearby places such as drinking water, toilets, parking, benches, playparks, health locations and more.

I built it after realising it was harder than it should be to quickly find everyday useful places when out and about, especially in unfamiliar areas.

With the current hot weather, I’ve made drinking water searches free with no ads. Key accessibility, family and health searches are also fully free with no ads, including accessible toilets, accessible parking, baby-changing toilets, parent & child parking, hospitals, GPs and defibrillators.

The app is built in Glasgow and has fast coverage across Scotland, the rest of the UK and Ireland, plus worldwide search support where public map data is available.

Important caveat: Find Nearby uses public map data, so locations can sometimes be incomplete, out of date, seasonal, unavailable or incorrectly mapped. Please don’t rely on it as your only source of water in hot weather - carry water and check critical details where possible.

I’d be really grateful for any feedback.

Thanks,

Callum

Free UK app for finding toilets, parking, benches and useful nearby places: feedback welcome

Hi everyone (I checked with the mods before posting).

I’m Callum, the Glasgow-based founder of Find Nearby, a free iPhone/Android app that helps people quickly find practical nearby places such as toilets, parking, benches, playparks, drinking water, health locations and more.

I built it after realising it was harder than it should be to quickly find everyday useful places when out and about, especially in unfamiliar areas.

It may be useful for UK trips, days out, long drives, family outings, accessible travel planning, or visiting a new town.

I’ve also recently made key accessibility, family and health searches free with no ads, including accessible toilets, accessible parking, baby-changing toilets, parent & child parking, hospitals, GPs and defibrillators.

Website: https://findnearby.co.uk

Like all map-based tools, the data can sometimes be incomplete or out of date, so users should check critical details where possible.

I’d welcome general feedback:

- Does this sound useful for UK travel or days out?

- Is the wording clear?

- Are there categories or details that would make it more useful?

- Is there anything that feels unclear or potentially misleading?

Thanks,

Callum
