Gemini Team, Let Us Set Default Models on Gemini Desktop
I am genuinely fascinated by the product logic behind the new macOS app. I pay for Gemini Advanced. I open the app, manually select 3.5 Flash with Extended Thinking, close the app, and reopen it later only to find it has quietly defaulted back to Flash-Lite. It’s like the app is staging an intervention to protect me from my own premium choices. Every. Single. Time.
At this point, it feels less like a minor bug and more like a highly deliberate, passive-aggressive nudge toward your cheapest inference tier. "Oh, you wanted deep reasoning? Best I can do is instant, shallow replies unless you click through the dropdown menu again."
All I’m asking for is a "Set as Default" toggle. Or, you know, just having the app remember what I was doing two minutes ago.
Your engineering team built a beautiful, native macOS app packed with SwiftUI, gRPC, and complex real-time streaming. It’s genuinely impressive. Which is why I refuse to believe that the exact same brilliant minds are completely baffled by the concept of basic state persistence.
Please, I beg of you, spare a couple of bytes of local storage. Let my preferences survive an app relaunch. 🤑
