counting calories really helps
so, i have been starting to take fitness seriously, again. anyway, this time with all of the relatively new info about nutrition, i decided it was smart to start counting calories. it is really eye opening.
i have a staple dish that i make. wild rice, chick peas, black beans or kidney beans, lentils, and quinoa. they all cook about the same, so i use about 50 grams of each and cook them in a rice cooker.
reading the label, except for the quinoa, and wild rice they all have about the same protein content, ~20 grams per 100grams. easy peasy right?
wrong! that is uncooked. 100grams of that cooked concoction only has about 7 grams of protein per 100grams. it also has about 131 calories.
second one.
protein shake i make.
2 scoops of protein powder at 25g of protein per scoop, and a fruit selection of 1 banana, handful of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries with 750ml of whole milk is roughly 75 grams of protein and 450 calories.
i didn't know whole milk had so much protein. i will definately only use 1 scoop of protein next time.
so yeah, dialing in, and getting a better idea of my diet will definately help my fitness journey. i'm not a min/max, optimal formula type of person, but just knowing the rough numbers is definately a step in the right direction for me.
