2nd MD since Sept…
I had a bi-lateral prolapse at L4/L5 last August after 3 rounds of injections over 3 years - made a full recovery - was fully discharged and back living life as I was pre-op. About a month ago started having weakness in my hip and glutes and a bit of struggle walking up and down stairs - saw 2 physios who said it was facet joint related… until last weekend when my left leg went a bit numb, then had full foot drop on Sunday AM - phoned 111 and was rushed in for an urgent MRI - turns out my L3/L4 had basically exploded with all pressure on right side of cord but numbness down left leg. Was on the trolley to be taken to theatre before consultant came and stopped it and said it need to be referred to group of senior consultants and radiologists - who despite symptoms not matching clinical diagnosis agreed microdiscetomy and decompression. They removed a 1.5inch piece of disc floating in my spinal cord and “rewired” the left. The recovery already feels so much easier - have more flex, less pain and generally feel better. Has anyone else experienced this with a second MD? Is it just a psychological thing, being more prepared for it, or a higher disc bearing less load? Interested to hear people’s thoughts….
